I agree, although I only have one shopping experience with them. They had a set of 4 plastic chrome spoke wheel covers for the price of 1 because they were listed as “scratched”.
So I took my chances and as it turned out you would never know they have any defects at all unless you went over them with a magnifying glass (or looked closely). Of… -
Bob replied to the topic Tow Bar in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 10 years ago
Great that you were able to put that together. I was lucky enough to get the tow bar from previous owner that looks like others seen for sale, having U-clamps to attach to VW chassis.
Is yours going to keep clear of the bumper okay? Pictures make it look very close if hitch end pivoted upward. As in entering/leaving road from some higher elevation… -

I like original cars that haven’t been restored to new, especially ones with original engines. Of course, I don’t like the idea of them rusting away or being unsafe to drive either.
Just that it must be fun to drive an unrestored car that actually shows it’s true age; instead of being like every other new car, with only its time-style difference.… -

Also have the old seat belt, yet is only attached by a pair of screws through each of the folded over ends.
I had to add more glue to the already glued approx. 1′ square plywood on underside of hood.Whatever the glue was had stretched like rubber, pulling away from the fiberglass interior, and was mainly being held in place by the carpeting that… -

Looks so good… and new too! Must feel nice to make progress however slow it might be. I can only know the pretty good feeling of buying a completed car.
🙂Your nicely welded gas tank picture is motivating me to get that done on mine so I can drive more than 50 miles at a time on a plastic portable tank! My old tank looked like I welded it myself… -

Is yours the VW-based kit?
If so, like mine, my old tank was apparently for the years ’68-on and the filler had been welded over with a plate (forward, drivers side). Hole was cut for a shortened filler neck put on the passenger side (rearward). The earlier tank, up to ’67, already has the filler neck on the passenger side but still needs cutting… -

Fun stuff! I’ve been going to the covered bridges around here by motorcycle, within only 100 miles or so of home, for a few years now. Had wanted to do that since the 1980’s when I saw some locations in a road atlas.
Been thinking of doing same using the old car too.I like the color of your car, it took me a moment to realize the bridge looks the… -

Very neat thing there. But like johnsimion was saying something didn’t seem right to me either but I think it’s because it has the look of indoor furniture. Or I just don’t know how to appreciate it the way the builder must have been envisioning that car.
😉Another thought I couldn’t get away from is the 1940’s airliner form it has. Would be… -

Thanks for your input Bill.
I’ve got the same filter at the fuel tank so I will be replacing that one too. Going to leave the engine bay filterless for now.I’ve seen so many pictures of other VW’s using this kind of filter, except many of them are somewhat different because of a cylindrical paper element with metal ring on at least one end.A ‘net… -

Same as my car, too. TD emblem. Looks like a twin, aside from color, except the builder carpeted the entire inside of ‘bonnet’ or hood.
Oh, and I’m guessing you meant ’52 not ’55. 🙂Tank was only bolted down, with carpet glued around edges. Nothing like silicone there. Don’t know if you had removed anything other than tank but mine has a… -

My old Subaru Impreza with 2.5 Auto (NA not turbo) averaged around 26 MPG for the 10 years I had it.
This 1679(?)cc VW engine is getting only 22 to 24 MPG from 10% ethanol 87 octane, but once it calculated at 27 on 89 octane. That was while trying to eliminate pinging I was getting from ‘pedal to the metal’, and it seemed to do the trick.Reset… -

Someone had crossed out the printed 1735 and wrote 1680. Definitely an 8 not a zero, and nothing else to correct that. The engine is said to be either reconditioned or remanufactured, I forget now, but it’s one of those with a blank area for the serial number. I’ve found more online now of what was told about the 88 bore and others at samba.com…[Read more]

That’s $1000 less during same time period! I mistakenly said March 1983 buy date, could swear I had seen that someplace in those papers, but invoice says March 19, 1984.I was also going to show the price I have here, didn’t recall the exact number when writing so looked again.

Well, I only skimmed over all the papers when I got the car so I discovered some new things I wasn’t aware of.
The kit name was called MG TD VW Executive on the inventory list, while order invoice says Deluxe instead.Although Knoxville was mentioned for the final build at Specialty Autoworks, now I’ve found out it was at New Tazwell, TN, and if you… -

Plenty of good info to hear about, thanks all! This had me looking through the notebook of papers given to me by the original owner. A year before the title date from Miami, FL.I can only wonder if this is because of a… -
