Know what you mean about the parking brake, mine is up front too, but does give me a space for the fire extinguisher between seats… and a cup holder.
I had thought it might be possible to put a smaller lever on the side, below dash, if pulleys and extended cable were used. Probably not something I would ever actually do though. For people without… -

Great catch!
Couldn’t remember that movie from IMCDb.org website so I gave it a look. -

Update: I can be so stupid sometimes and this one is a perfect example. I was using the wrong timing mark on the pulley! The little v notch for 5 degrees ATDC instead of the small dent or dimple on the right of it. These are the only two markings my pulley has.
Somehow I got it in my mind the dimple was to be ignored in favor of the 5 degree mark… -

Since I paid $5600 for mine that one isn’t a whole lot more and I like the differences I see in it.
Looks like a folding windshield. Has the replica headlight bars instead of the unpainted flat bars I have. Not sure about the engine cover but maybe it opens to the side instead of up the way mine does. And its dash is more like the original than… -

Interesting twist to all this, literally. I might have been using the new digital timing light wrong. It’s a Actron with the advance adjustment buttons and is shown on the display.
I was setting it to the degrees advance and then revving the engine, twisting on the distributor to get the pulley timing mark lined up with the crankcase split when the… -

That’s a good look for these cars, especially considering wood dash and steering wheel if you have them.
😀Like the fold-up design too.Not fond of the metal racks. I was considering buying a 1974 Corvette last Fall and it had a luggage rack I really didn’t like at all. -

Wow. Was I ever thinking wrong about the cam lobes inside the distributor. Finally realized these have 4 high spots, one for each cylinder, in a rounded square shape.Been soooo long since I’ve dealt with this stuff. So it’s like my ’69 Toyota 4 cylinder that I’ve forgotten all about! Silly really, that I could think a single lobe could work… -

I’m certain I don’t have the doghouse cooler on the fan shroud, at least not like I’ve seen pictures of.
I don’t think the distributor lobe itself could be changed in a way to do this since it has only one high spot to open the contact points. EDIT: wrong! Sorry everyone. My thinking was way wrong on this, see my later reply. 4 lobes, 1 for each… -

Okay, that’s interesting. I changed the distributor cap to a clear red one so I’m going to go back to the other and see if I can notice a #3 offset while I’m at it.
😮Also going to see about turning the fuel mixture screw in a little, and try different gas too. The 100% stuff isn’t cheap, of course, but it isn’t a major brand either. Thanks again Kent! -

Sage advice. Just not sure I can do the torsion bars without messing them up but does seem fairly simple from what I’ve read. There’s also the coil spring over shock absorbers, which appear to be adjusted at least possible preload.
My tires are going on 8 years old according to their imprinted date, so those will need replacement sooner than later,… -

😆I’ve been thinking lifting weights, but lead would take up less space. I’m almost certain my front end is too light because it skips sideways a little when a big truck goes past me, not just a subtle move.

Thanks for that answer, Bill! Never would have guessed that.
Must be a quite a weight reduction that way. I’ve been purposefully loading the front end of my VW-based car to try and balance it out. Couldn’t recall if yours is also VW or not. -

Bob replied to the topic Odometer in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 6 months ago
Surprisingly mine is very accurate, according to a smartphone GPS app. My daily driver car is probably less accurate because it has 17″ wheels instead of the original 16″, making for about 1.5 MPH slower as seen on the speedometer.
I just didn’t expect much accuracy from this Vintage speedo when I saw it, and the wheel+tire size would have been a… -

At the car shows I get to, which is not that many or far away from home, I’m always drawn to the cars kept original as possible. The V8 hotrods get little of my attention, unless I’m just looking to see what they did to change the car/truck such as interior and body work.

Hope I get to see a “real thing” (thinking Coca-Cola) MG someday, like that one, Paul. That’s definitely an improvement if the car already has spare wheel bars like that one does. Less cluttered look, minimalist of sorts.
I’ve got to get me luggage for my rack, too, like that on Rosebud! Very nice look you have there. - Load More
