I have a set of 5 wire hubcaps, and at least a couple of them rattled so I removed them. Just left the spare one on. All have a little rust. Centers say Special Edition, except spare with multiple country flags on it.

I would sell them but who would want rattling hub caps!

I like the half moon hubcaps with MG logo idea, but I’m going to need 4 good…

  • Back again to say I was getting confused about the fuel line ID size.

My fuel pump has a smaller and larger diameter on the intake and outlet sides, with the larger going from pump to carburetor. I understand the PSI is low going in and increased going out.

However, now I’m thinking these larger diameter hoses might be the 5mm that have ballooned up…

I’ve never done fiberglass but heard it isn’t a fix for rusted out parts left in place. Sounds like someone wanted a quick fix, and I myself am guilty of that kind of thing!
I was glad to hear the PO of my car say it had been undercoated. It seems to be in great condition, and I’m sure it helped that he didn’t take it out into the rain.
    Except for…

  • Thanks guys! Yeah, I needed a freebie after going through all that. Although another Vise Grips makes me feel like I owe the car something now! I guess that would be a complete fixing up, not finished yet anyhow.

Because of the type of car it is, and new to me, been difficult to do anything to this car. I hated to tear up the carpet-lined trunk…

  • Update: my perception of fuel hose sizes is at fault here. I was convinced the old hose going to the tank was a 5mm, and even after I added the new sections with the filter and shut-off (will check into getting a more robust valve) I couldn’t see a difference in their diameters.

And yet, when looking at that hose under the front of the car I was…

Just watched on Velocity (Discovery) a TC sell for almost half million in a Barrett-Jackson auction at Scottsdale AZ from back in January.

Carroll Shelby’s 1st race car. Of course, news to me. Only knew of Shelby not all his cars.

    🙂

Yep, those are listed at imcdb.org.

I’ve been surprised people knew what my car is supposed to be. I had never heard of them before, only knowing about the later MG sportsters. So really a surprise to me they were in so many movies and TV that I probably noticed and never thought they were an MG.

    Incredible. Thanks for that!

Curiously missing are the Heights Of Danger and Wings Of Danger/Dead On Course movies, even after I searched for models TA thru TF. I know the first movie definitely has a TD in it.
Confused me a moment when contemporary cars were shown for TF before I remembered about newer models with the same TF naming.
    I’m amazed at…

Found someone had posted about the movie Funny Farm a while ago. A comedy I had forgotten about, last seen it half dozen years ago. Chevy Chase driving a MG TF to his new home, meant to be a reclusive location for his book writing.

I watch a lot of Turner Classic Movies on TV and they’ve had commercials for Pillow Talk, a Rock Hudson and Doris Day…

  • Got to admit I really like those better replicated dashes, among other things too.

    😀
If I hadn’t recently found out about the 1953 movie Heights Of Danger race numbers on one of these cars would never make sense to me. Not something I could imagine, (endurance or rally) racing a MG TD, but I’m learning more about them all the time.
    Been reading the…

  • Could be battery. If by “vrrrm” sound you meant engine didn’t turn, you only heard the starter spin, it might not have the power for the starter motor to engage the flywheel (very large gear attached to engine).

When the battery sits a long time, not being charged, voltage can drop enough to shorten its usable life.
I actually had to replace mine…

I’m also anxious to see what you will have there after it’s done.
Found this just now, would think it a nice addition if they could be attached to the chassis via back seat area.

One of the first thoughts after getting my car was about lack of a roll bar safety feature like I see on so many small sports cars. Wasn’t really intimidating because I…

  • I should have told about the tank fitting being replaced already, too. Sorry.

Only using 100% gasoline, available around here, that’s why I went ahead and bought the original 5mm braided hose from a foreign car parts shop. I will check about the barricade kind when I can replace it all again.
The engine compartment hoses seem okay, but were put on 4…

  • Makes a nice hotrod. I agree that the fenders take away a lot of the appeal these cars have. Love the swoop look.

I’d take just about any car if given to me, so I’d never be a good judge at car shows.

  • Funny that you mention Corvette… noticed the ebay description compares thickness of fiberglass to them (Corvette thinner). Can’t be sure of that myself but late last year I was all set to plunk down $9000 on a ’74 ‘vette until I test drove it. Never drove one before, didn’t realize its sport car aspect was like driving a little car. Well, a…[Read more]

A very good point there, and something I had thought about. I don’t think I could have done it if not a car.
I was actually thinking of a 2nd motorcycle when the replica car idea caught my attention. TBH it’s something I thought years and…

  • They’re asking the same for theirs that I paid for mine, or rather bid up to, in the ebay auction.

The price ranges confused me when I was looking to buy, but all I was going to get was something at the lowest end that was drivable as-is and still looked okay too. That and tow home myself without going more than a few hundred miles away.

    Found I…

I think all the Lafer doors were conventional, hinges forward and handles back (although radio antenna does make this one look a little like hinges on passenger side).

  • No problem watching it. Only anxiety from seeing it get stuck in the mud. 😆

The clunking and gearbox sounds really add to the effect, as does the blue smoke, but I sure hope my MGTDr never gets that bad. Take it on a course like that, and it would alright. No country drive video games? 😉
