April 5, 2012 at 1:39 pm #249862Hi Allan,
Beautiful rims! If you had an extra set, I would buy those in a heartbeat.
Good luck in trying to sell the car.
I am practically your neighbor. I live in SW Miami.
Cheers,
mauricioApril 5, 2012 at 1:18 pm #248293Guys,
It was the throwout bearing and one of the boots was cracked.I was lucky to find a good vw mechanic in South Florida and he has since overhauled my engine.
All I really needed was the throwout bearing and a new boot. But hey, now I have a new engine.
My mechanic also noticed the bowden tube needed to be welded in place and that is where I am now.
He replaced the clutch cable, clutch, plate, and now the car has trouble engaging in gear (probably because of the bowden tube?)
Luckily, he will try to fix this issue this Saturday.
Thanks again for all your help!!!
December 19, 2011 at 1:23 pm #248290Guys, Thanks for your help. It really only makes the noise when pressing down on the clutch pedal. The car uses a 68 VW engine and chassis, I am going to assume the throwout bearing is the same as the 68 beetle.
Thanks again for your help !December 18, 2011 at 10:06 pm #248287Wow. That was quick. Thanks for your quick responses. Could this also be caused by the ‘clutch release bearing?’
The car is in neutral. Just on and the noise occurs when the clutch pedal is pressed down.
It was fine two weeks ago.
I will ask my mechanic after the holidays, but in the meantime, I wanted to consult with you guys (the real experts).
Thanks again and have a great night!
December 18, 2011 at 9:08 pm #244084Gang, it was the tires. I got them from the Web. Also, found a great mechanic in the SW Miami-Dade area. He works on VW Beetles.
Thanks again fro all your help!
Vibration case closed!

May 9, 2011 at 5:37 pm #244458Wow! Thank you guys! Amazing responses and I now know a heck of a lot more about my problem.
Ed, my mechanic is just a general mechanic in Miami. He changed the parts I supplied for him and manually adjusted the carb.
I will look for a VW bug mechanice in Miami. If you know of anyone, please let me know.
Thanks again for your valuable help! Have a great day!
May 2, 2011 at 5:48 pm #244455Thanks Rich, but what you just said is like Mandarin to me. I am not much of a mechanic. I can change the oil and that is about it.
Someone just mentioned this to me: The diaphragm may have ruptured which decreases it’s ability to pump fuel and also dumps gas into your oil. What would cause the diaphragm to rupture? It is after all, a brand new gas pump. Is ethanol in current gas bad for the car? Could the fuel additive have caused this?
Also, the fuel pump is sealed (I think) and I would not able to open it. Or is there a way? Thanks.
April 18, 2011 at 3:45 pm #244002thanks much :O) I had the floors redone a few years back and as I was leaving the shop, I had noticed the fuel was on empty, which was impossible, since I always have at least 1/2 a tank. The guy did not bother to test any wires. He just ran a new wire to the tank. That fixed it. Should I leave these alone? or connect them to the tank? Thanks for your help!
April 4, 2011 at 4:51 pm #244000hahahahah!!!! Thanks guys !
April 4, 2011 at 3:11 pm #243997Thanks for your help! The oddest thing happened this weekend. I reconnected the wire on the front for the turn signal and the darn thing started working again (the turn signal) for about 10 seconds and then stayed on. Even after I had stopped the turn signal. The turn signal works on the other side. So, could this be a relay?
March 30, 2011 at 1:53 pm #243995Gang,
So would anyone know where thse wires go? It is one brown and one grey.
Thanks,
:O)
March 30, 2011 at 1:51 pm #244079Thanks for the help. I am making a list for the mechanic :O)
March 30, 2011 at 1:31 pm #244096Thanks for the help guys :O)
March 29, 2011 at 4:19 pm #244077Should I also think about changing the steering damper? Tie rods? Adjusts steering box? Thanks.
March 29, 2011 at 3:43 pm #244076Thanks guys! And I thought all I had to do is find a new set of 165 sr 15 tires. Is there another size I should be buying? Also, once I get them what tire pressure should I be using? I hear 17 psi on front and 26 on back. Is that accurate?
March 29, 2011 at 3:32 pm #244093Yes, those are side windows. Mine came with those. So, getting back to my question, would anyone know where I can buy the back lights and emergency lights on the front? Thanks.
March 28, 2011 at 11:22 pm #244072Thanks guys! I am running to costco this weekend to get new tires :O)
March 28, 2011 at 11:15 pm #244090Ray, I found the photo on the web. But I thought all MP lafers had those covers. I know mine does. I actually have thought about getting a tire and cutting it and cementing it over the cover.
March 28, 2011 at 4:34 pm #244087Thanks. I will go to MG Magic. I guess I would be looking for the MGTD covers. Correct? Thanks.
March 28, 2011 at 3:32 pm #243994Thanks guys,
Finally getting to look under the hood and here is what I am seeing: I found this wire (under the spare tire, in front of vehicle), which was not connected to anything. It is taped up, comes from the area near the instrument panel and it has two wires coming out of it ( a gray and a brown one). I am thinking either the mechanic knocked them loose or they were connected somewhere or not connnected at all:I am also including a photo of the wiring panel. Does it look OK to you guys? I am also including a photo of the wiring panel. Does it look OK to you guys?
Thanks for your help!
