No current will flow if the ground connection is not attached. You can check all the pos connections and fuses on this car that you want and no current will flow to any of them if there is no ground back to the battery. Check each component you want to test with a jumper cable on the neg side back to the neg battery post. And check it again with a…[Read more]

Shorting the pos battery terminal to the steering post would not energize the horn or send any current through it, that comes from a positive wire through the horn button. The steering post is a ground.Like I said above and Al Greig said, a direct short from the pos battery post to ground doesn’t involve any wiring or any fuses, other than the…[Read more]

Do you have a voltmeter or just using the idiot lights on the charger? You could have burned/melted either of the battery terminals inside the battery and get no juice out of it. You also could have burned/melted the ground cable where it attaches to the body of the car or engine, or the cable itself. Check that connection and the cable. If you…[Read more]

Did the wrench ground out against the steering column or the pos cable hit the steering and sparked?Does the battery have a charge after it shorted? The battery is hooked up right – pos-pos and neg-neg?FWIW, you should always remove the neg cable first and install it last, for safety reasons, then the battery doesn’t get shorted out.

Check out the steering stabilizer (shock) on the front end.

Do any of you know of adjustable coil over shocks like that for the front of VW based kits without making the ride so hard it would be unbearable ( and maybe less safe?). I still need to raise the front of my car an inch or two for tire clearance and have been reluctant because of cost to go with an adjustable beam.

I think I found some center caps that fit – http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eagle-Alloys-Center-Cap-3-125-Dia-Snap-On-Dome-Chrome-Steel-ACC310706-/390416594925?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae6a477ed&vxp=mtr#shId and they are pretty inexpensive. They are push ons rather than push throughs, they are supposed to stay on and are actually…[Read more]

I can’t even hear my radio, especially with the top up. It works great at traffic stops or sitting in the parking lot though.Al – did you glue the gasket material to the underside of the fiberglass deck to seal off the bottom completely, or just let it lay under there extending over the tin?mrlmd2012-05-13 12:15:48

Nice looking car, glad you use it as much as you do.Where did you find those center wheel hub covers? They give a great look, better than the baby moons IMO.I also made a firewall in front of my engine using a piece of galvalume roofing panel that I spray painted black after I was happy with it, screwed it to the fiberglass in a few places to hold…[Read more]

Marc Lipsius replied to the topic VW based TD tire pressure in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
I reduced my fronts to 20 psi, the rears to 25 psi and I do say my car rides much softer and sticks to the curvy roads very well riding around my area. I had it out on the road up to 65mph and it drives straight and smooth, but does get blown around a little by the wind. The ride seems much better to me. Thanks. The very slight reduction in tire…[Read more]

I’ve been to Bonaire 3 or 4 times on scuba diving trips with a group of friends, and it’s great for that. The water is crystal clear and there are lots of incredible dive sites, that’s what the island is famous for. And that’s about it, not much else to do or see, except the salt production. Enjoy yourself, don’t eat too much goat (about the only…[Read more]

That seemed to work. That pic showed up in the little box on the right hand side where it’s listed and uploaded, but the little popup box where the upload progress is seen is for some reason blocked by Firefox from connecting to the server, even if I click it to allow it. But the pic got posted here anyway. Now I have to see how I can reduce my…[Read more]
