Your slip yoke looks like it should be father into the transmission. If it’s not in far enough (no comments please), it causes all kinds of problems. Maybe the driveshaft needs to be lengthened about 2″ or so.
Luckily, there’s a driveshaft repair & fabricator shop (Mr. Drivesahft) only 8 miles from me in Farmingdale, NJ (Howell Twp.).

A few years before she passed away, my mother said to me, “You used to be nervous and jerky as a kid…you aren’t as nervous anymore.”

WTF was that red #66? Looked like it was from a Speed Racer cartoon!
The guy in the Kaiser Darren was having some trouble with that turn! Nothing like using you head for a roll bar!
Sand in the carb for hot Allard was a hoot too!
Nice guard rails…cones and hay bales!!!
I watched it twice!!!!

I’m playing with two Beetles right now, a ’69 and a ’74. One will become a fenderless Volksrod (google it) with a straight front axle…a la ’23 T-Bucket.
Then the Beetle that’s left gets sold.
I’ve been “busy” with various VW vendors for about 8 months now and Doghouse is by far the cheapest and very easy to deal with. There are literally…[Read more] -

Ringo is correct about the timing and vacuum leaks. A lean air cooled motor will burn up quickly.
After the valves are adjusted, check the dwell and the timing. If you install a Pertonix Ignitor, then the points (dwell) never has to be adjusted and the timing will stay constant once it’s set.
When the dwell changes, the timing changes…however,…[Read more] -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic shifter bushing help in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 3 months ago
When in neutral, is the shifter exactly perpendicular to the tunnel?
If it’s not, that could cause your shifting problem too. If it’s leaning forward or backwards as you look through an open door, it will make it difficult to find gears.
Look on http://www.thesamba.com for VW related stuff and a great forum for asking VW related questions. -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic hydraulic car dolly…… in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 3 months ago
I got some expensive “static” dollies that don’t take up as much room. The hydraulic ones are nice, but I needed something compact. With mine, you have to jack the car up to get them under the tires.
They have needle bearing casters and are rated over 6,000 lbs. Way overkill for these cars.
For light little cars like the TD replica’s, a set from…[Read more] -

Great news…glad you’re running, but remember if you re-wire the car, that steering column may still have a bad wire.
I’d consider a dash mounted ignition switch and disabling the steering column lock if you rewire the car.

Some other BCW hints: Center hinged bonnet, real MG glass tail lights, real MG windscreen, real MG bumper and overriders, real MG headlight mounts…
The dash looks like a clone of Larry’s BCW too. It looks pretty sharp…wonder if it’s a Schweppe’s…[Read more] -

Ed…changing the transaxle on an IRS VW is not a killer job. If you do end up changing it, I’d suggested using a “Freeway Flyer”…a transaxle modified with higher rear gears (ring & pinion) and higher 4th gear. It really makes these cars a joy on the highway and leaves 1st through 3rd for around town.
My VW based TD (Bill Collins former…[Read more] - Load More
