Paul, you should have italicized the word most
Sometimes I wonder about that when I’m driving the rotten NJ roads.

Wolfsburg West…Air Cooled.net…are two of the top vendors for OEM German VW parts. Get the little bushing that goes into the center link for the dampner mount too.
Unfortunately, the VW aftermarket is the WORST for quality because most of it comes from China. German parts are double and triple the cost and getting scarcer by the minute.…[Read more] -

The companies that sold these cars in the 80’s had videos and advertised that you could build these cars in a weekend. They provided lame, inadequate build manuals too. Some inexperienced people bought these cars and gave up after a few weekends of trying. That’s why there are so many of these kits still around unbuilt!
With all due respect, a…[Read more] -

According to the people in my VW club, best VW restoration stuff is available from Wolfsburg West.
IMHO, the best VW info is on http://www.thesamba.com
BEWARE of 90% of the VW aftermarket, most of it is Chinese crap that doesn’t work, fit or last.
If it’s an OEM VW part, try to get German made first. If it’s not available then Brazilian made second. -

West Marine has a great line of 3M products for the gelcoat, vinyl top (it’s probably not canvas), and the clear plastic window in the top.
As far as the gelcoat cars go, treat your car’s finish like it’s a boat. Painting the car is an option too. -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Nice Chevette BCW automatic up for bid in the forum Running MGTD Kits Cars for Sale 14 years, 3 months ago
A couple discrepancies:
1) They are not built on MG frames.
2) It’s VIN is the Chevette donor car.
3) The bidding is probably “friends” bidding it up to the reserve.
It’s in Philly ed, go take a look -

Seems that a lot of people selling cars, parts, etc. don’t want to be contacted.

Hey Tom, Welcome
I have personally owned a VW based CMC/FiberFab TD, a CMC/FiberFab Ford based TD and British Coach Works Chevette based TD.
There were many MD “replica” manufacturers and all varied in the quality of their components and their “authenticity” as far as looks. Most were VW based, some were Ford (Pinto) based and some were GM…[Read more] -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Volts meter reads low? in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 3 months ago
Put a good voltmeter on it and see.
As you know generators put out voltage as the RPM increases and vice-versa.
VW generators are a little bit better than that thing on your old bicycle that rubbed against the tire to power that 1 candle power headlight and taillight
I convert all my VW’s to alternator. It’s a simple swap too. Only two wires to…[Read more] -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Volts meter reads low? in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 3 months ago
Ed, does it have a generator or alternator?
VW generators will read lower than one with an alternator. It’s probably been like this forever and only now that you have a measuring “tool” it concerns you.
Got a multimeter? Check the output at the big fat (10 ga.?) voltage regulator wire that goes to the battery +.

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Wiring problem in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 4 months ago
I’ve done loads of these on race and street cars.
1) Puller (engine side) is best. Check the rotation before you install it, most impellers can be turned for “pusher” or “puller”. Just hook it to a battery + to +, – to – and test it before you install it.
2) No, you don’t need your “mechanical” fan anymore. This is good.
3) For the street, an e…[Read more] -

Welcome Terry.
As Paul pointed out, this forum is a “wealth of unmarketable knowledge”
Plus, the people here are friendly
You may want to check out http://www.thesamba.com for anything that is VW related to your new baby. Don’t take their “help” personally…but they are bit “rougher” on each other than we are. -

Be very careful with redrilled VW brake drums/rotors. The back side of the drums where the original 4×130 bolt holes are drilled is almost 4 times as thick as the rest of the drum face.
There is a cross (+) that is cast right into the back side (shoe side)drum that these lug bolt holes are drilled and tapped into. The rest of the drum is WAY…[Read more] -

ed is 100% correct. The MP Lafer is a beast all unto itself. The best place to try for parts and info is the Brazilian club he posted the link to.
I doubt if MG Magic can help you with Lafer unique parts.
