Ed – Most of the ones that cared either way were still annoyed. The few that took an interest, thought the end product was pretty cool. Will, other then normal maintenance, I’ve only done two things. After about ten eyars with the stock VW engine, I built a mild dual carb 1641cc. Has about 85 hp, enough to move it along. And I’ve had to do major…[Read more]

Thanks. I was 24 when I built my Duchess so maybe i didn’t know any better. Instead of giving up where a lot of people probably gave up…I just pushed through. The garage was my dad’s, who had to park outside for nine months. And it really was a single car. The Duchess body parts could not stay in the garage while I worked on the chassis. They…[Read more]

This is great stuff and will be a big help to anyone undertaking the same project.I built my car in 1982. In a single car garage. Alone. In the dark…metaphorically speaking. I had my tools and an assembly manual. Amazingly, after nine months, i fired her up and backed out of the garage. And 27 years later, nothing has fallen off!It was cool…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Zero-Dish Steering Wheel in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 6 months ago
It’s hard to tell, but I do not think the wheel that Washington Will posted is a “zero dish” wheel.
The spokes definitely have a slight bend near the rim. They appear to bend at the center.
“Flat 4” in this case is the manufacturer; not a description of the wheel.
Nice wheel. But if you really need a “zero” Chuck, I would call CIP before I…[Read more] -

I checked it out in MAM’s on-line catalogue. Looks pretty good to me. Price is right too!Worst that can happen is you are not satisfied when you open the box and you have to return it.OK, I guess that’s not true. The WORST that can happen is you install it, it delaminates at speed, falls off in your lap and, well you get the picture. But you’ll…[Read more]

Ah those superior British! Such an attitude 🙂
But this time they are right. It is a very elegant solution to hinging/latching the hood. Or should I say bonnet?
-
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic First ride in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 6 months ago
Actually, using the VW hood latch is unlike “most” TD replicas and for some reason, many of the instruction manuals told the builder to hinge the hood on the passenger side, opening it from the driver side.As far as VW based TD replicas go, the British Coach works is the only one I’m aware of that uses the VW hood latch. Most use two simple boat…[Read more]

Asked and answered before I got back here.
But (and I’m working solely on memory here), yes, I recall all of the above was correct for Classic roadsters. Ford engine, Chevette rear. No idea why they went that way tho. -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Weber carb rebuild in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 6 months ago
Back in the day…1982…when Classic Roadsters Ltd. delivered my Duchess kit (with their own staff, and on their own trucks!), the delivery guys told me they were running a front engine V6 Duchess around at the factory.I forget the details. But even with the additional engine weight, they said it would get the front wheels off the ground if you…[Read more]

I agree with you Mark. But…
Daytons will run over $2,000 for a set of four. Nobody ever said Truspokes were cheap. But for someone commited to real wires, they ae less than Dayton. -
