winnipaw,I think we need to clarify somethings here.My Duchess is a VW based car. There are no piano hinges. The front hood has two hinges on the passenger side. There is a chrome strip down the center; underneath that strip, on he underside of the hood, these is an inverted “u” channel, supporting the length of the hood. the seat belt is screwed to…[Read more]

My Duchess’ hood is held open with a length of seatbelt webbing just as Larry Murphy described.

I’m not gonna help you with this one winnipaw. :)My Duchess’ engine cover is hinged at the bottom and swings back over the rear bumper. When I working on the car, I simply use straightened coat hangars to hook the latches together and hold the cover off the bumper (it would rest on the spare, which is OK, but leaves line across the spare).Well…[Read more]

I dug all over the JC Whitney site and could not find the “nipple” caps with plain centers. They do have plain chrome “smoothies”Bailey, do you have a link or part number?

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Make the VW steel wheel into stock TD in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 8 months ago
I’m still unable to find the “nipple” or “Porshce 356” style hubcps with a plain center.
I found several sites selling the hubcap with an Empi badge in the center
http://www.vwparts.net/MB10-1056.html
It looks like you might be able to remove the Empi logo. -

You can’t just cut it out. The MG TD Center is on a post, you drill a half inch hole through the center of the hubcap, the MG center attaches with spring clip on teh back.I have not yet found the source for the hubcaps I bought. But I am sure I will track it down.

I just took a quick search around the web and cannot find the hubcaps I used. They look like the standard VW cap, but the center circle is smooth; it does not have the emobssed VW logo.
I’ll check further and let you know what I come up with.
The reproduction MG TD wheel centers are available from Moss Motors (and I am sure other vintage British…[Read more] -

Check out my TD in the photo gallery, PMOSSBERG
The wheels are stock VW wheels, painted with the proper British gray (available from Eastwood).
The caps are plain VW chrome hubcaps, with original TD wheel centers.
Not exact, but close enough for me. And a major improvement on the wire baskets I had on prior to this.
TD wheels had round holes, not…[Read more] -

It is not a stock speedo cable. But I forget how long the substitute is.Remember, the driving position is basically the back seat of the original VW. So the dash is pushed towards the rear too.

Richard,Any engine code beginning with “AD” is a replacement block. Your block was never supplied in a new cars, it was sold “over the counter”. All are dual-relief with 10mm oil passages.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Seeking steel wheels vs. Wire wheel cover in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 15 years, 9 months ago
Bill’s “Angelica” did not have “original” style steel wheels. (either VW or MG). They were Mini-lights, or something that looked like mini-lites.
Stock TD hubcaps will not fit a stock VW or Chevette wheel. -

I agree the best driving weather is a clear crisp fall day! Drop teh top, bundle up, put the heat on if you have it, and go!Re starting up while the car is otherwise idle, I am not an engineer. But I have been told one of the worst things you can to an internal combustion engine is start it, let it run for a few minutes and shut it down. The engine…[Read more]
