Hi Chuck,
Beautiful car. Good luck!
You have a Classic Roadsters Duchess. The give-away is the small bump in the rear fenders where they meet the running boards.
You asked about the seats and seat belts.
My very off the record suggestion…get over it. 🙂
The best way to attach three point belts is in cars with a roll bar. If you have a roll bar,…[Read more] -

Based solely on my experience with my Classic roadsters Duchess, the fender mirrors bolt through fibergalss only…they are no where near any metal that is, in turn, connected to the chassis.
Your kit may be different. And if the mirrors do bolt through metal that is somehow connected to the chassis, then yes, you coudl run a short ground wire…[Read more] -

Todd,
The beauty of the kit car world…it’s all up to owner choice.
I ran wire wheel covers for t efirst 20 years my TD replica was on the road.
Then I switched to a steel wheel painted in the correct TD gray, with chrome hubcaps with original TD centers. the caps are not exact to the TD style…but close enough. Take a look in the pmossberg gallery. -

Larry’s description is the common approach to many manufacturer’s TD kits. I have seen none where the “flat bar” actually bends around the corners of the windshield frame slot.
Classic Roadsters tops had small tabs the fit into the slot on the two sides. But they are separate pieces from the main bar. AAnd they were sewn into the fabric of the…[Read more] -

Neat. Too bad there’s not a lot of room for that in a VW based kit. Although I might be able to do something like a large glove box.

Prototype Research & Development Ltd,a Canadian firm, continues to manufacture a TD replica.
They do front and rear engine versions. But they are pretty darn pricey!

Hi Andre,All I know is that Frank started this site…and never looked for any help with the expenses. We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude for all of the free years. Finally standing up and opposing the “free ride”, Mark and I waged a small fund raising campaign a few months ago. I think Frank received enough to cover this year’s web hosting…[Read more]

I did not order the optional wire wheels. Nor did I buy a st of wheels from Dayton. I ran wire wheel covers until about five years ago. Then I converted to a look as close to the original TD look as I could get. I took a set of VW chrome wheel covers and drilled the centers to accept reproduction TD hubcap medallions. I painted the VW steel wheels…[Read more]

Andre,
There is an access panel under your seat to access the connection between the shift rod and the front of the transaxle.
The VW VIN is stamped into the chassis right above that access panel. -

Hey Ringo, I need to dig through old stuff to figure that out.
Andre, no I didn’t check my id tag yet. -
