Just a thought, but if you are in there anyway, consider replacing the plastic bushing with one of these and you likely will never have to touch it again.

The wing brackets Tom posted are the ones that are on my Duchess.
Remember, our windshield frames basically mount backwards. The groove faces the front, not rear.So the brackets are mounted on the new “front” of the frame and leave the side of the frame completely clear with nothing to interfere with the side curtain snaps. -

Thanks Dave.Yup…I pretty much know or have found most (if not all) of the vendors. Those are not the style that Classic roadsters Ltd. used.I don’t need ’em. Was just trying to help TJ out. He started this thread with the comment that his brackets appear to be the same as those used on the Duchess. The Duchess’ hardware seems to be unique. The…[Read more]

Schu – That is what I was talking about. And I finally picked up on “What ‘chu talkin’ ’bout, Willis?” :lol:TJ – Here’s a reasonably priced starter kit for your hood project:http://www.ebay.com/itm/MG-TD-MGTD-BONNETT-HOOD-Complete-Top-sides-/191789491492?hash=item2ca78b6524:g:Rh8AAOSwxN5WZfml&vxp=mtr

I’ve searched in vain for years to try and find the wing hinges that Classic Roadsters Ltd. used on the Duchess.

Schu – Willis?Didn’t you pop a door open on the Carlisle autocross one year?

I believe schu also has self opening doors! Of course they are self-actuating, and not necessarily at the proper time! :!:Who knew such technology was built into our TDr’s? 🙁

Excellent point Steve.
The comment about “production” convertibles is definitely true.I suspect having solid panels down the length of the TDr helps. -

I agree it would look awesome! But…
I doubt it would fit “out of the box.” Our cars are close, but they are not exact recreations. The inner body panels are different as well. There may be no place for the hood latches to attach to (down on the corners of the side panels). On a VW based car, you’d be opening up the trunk space with the vents on th… -

Just guessing…Is there a screw, set screw or some other attachment on the bottom? Might even be hidden by the mounting bolts.

As of this morning, January 25, half of our rooms at the hotel are spoken for. With the inclusion of the tuner crowd, hotel space will likely be scarce this year. If you are planning on going, I suggest you reserve soon!

First time I ever drove my Duchess on public roads, it snowed. Not a lot. But enough to christen the car. I finished her in December 1982. And was going to drive her no matter what.Coldest drive is probably a tie between the Pumpkin run a couple years ago and heading to the VA Beach show a couple years ago.Air temp was around 30 degrees both…[Read more]

I can’t believe I didn’t think about this until now. But there is another major issue to consider if you want to switch to an original TD windshield frame.Your TDr roof and side curtains will not work with an original frame. And I’m not sure if they can be made to work. Not trying to dampen your enthusiasm. I just want you to go into this as well…[Read more]

….Automobile Club of Catalonia – BarcelonaThanks for the Pertronix detail. I’ve heard from other users…either the Pertronix module works forever, or it fails relatively early. Langan, will try to find the thread. But it probably won’t matter what kit the owner was working on. Just about all replica TD cowls have the squared off corners. As Ed said, hack ’em off and apply new ‘glass to match the correct profile.

Thanks Ed! You beat me to the punch.Langan…the most critical sentences in Ed’s post are the last two.
The cowl on your TDr may not be the same width as the cowl on an original TD. If it’s not, the job will entail far more than just rounding off the corners to match the curve on the frame.Ed said don’t start the project until you have a… -
