Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedApril 28, 2020 at 11:17 pm #306640With time on my hands and having pulled center dash to put in new instruments, I decided to tackle a job that I know I should not do since everything works in the car. But it’s too late now. I have been cutting into the wiring harness so I can make a wiring diagram. When this car was put together, if a item was being wired and that color ran out, another color was just spliced in. I might have green for the hi beams, but when the wire gets to the switch, it might be brown.
Have found many extra wires and parallel ground wires. I have eliminated duplication when possible and re-routed some wires to clean up engine compartment. Next is moving a couple relays in engine compartment to under dash.
When I removed the GM V6 from the donor Camaro, I also removed lots of wiring and some mechanical items. One item I have is the underhood fuse and relay panel. So I am attempting to use this under the dash.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedApril 28, 2020 at 10:54 pm #306639Very nice! Good solution since MGTD brackets would not work.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedApril 6, 2020 at 9:32 pm #306548By the way, my old speedo, tach, fuel, and temp gauges are available. They are also Classic Instruments, but are the Vintage series.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedApril 6, 2020 at 9:29 pm #306547Instruments are by Classic Instruments, Classic White series. Speedo is electronic as is tach. Speedo can be adjusted for most any signal from the trans and tach can be set based on ignition type and number of cylinders. But they were not cheap. Decided to splurge since I sold my other MGTD.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedApril 5, 2020 at 9:10 pm #306542No posts for all of 2019 – I must have been too busy to spend much time on Sammy. So I did just make a change that I would like to share since it is a big improvement. I installed a larger speedo and tach.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedJuly 10, 2019 at 9:03 pm #306212Just a straight bit 1/4 inch. I think the secret was to drill 1/4 inch holes at the top and bottom. Drilling first allows you to keep the holes at the same height so louvers will all be same height. Place the router and bit in the top and bottom holes to set the guide. I did not use tape because the tape would make it hard to see if you have the router in the groove. Also, my car is black. It is easy to spray the cut edges with gloss black to match the car. I sprayed from the back.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedJuly 9, 2019 at 9:32 pm #306210Guides were just two straight edges held by clamps. Router edges follow the guides. I used a straight router. First I used just one guide, but I found that I would move away from guide at times. So needed two guides to stay straight. Just remembered. I drilled holes at either end of louver first, then placed router bit in top hole and set guides, then moved router down louver to lower hole.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedJuly 8, 2019 at 10:23 pm #306206Original 1952 MGTD with punched louvers in metal hood. Posted so you could get an idea of what louvers would look like on top of hood. I had considered grafting metal louvers into my replica fiberglass hood. But I would be glad to have you do it first and let us see how well it turns out.
I used a router and guides to cut out the louvers in my fiberglass hood sides. It worked well.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedJuly 6, 2019 at 7:59 pm #306202Save the money. The louvers look fine. Maybe consider adding aluminum louvers to top of hood.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedMay 21, 2019 at 9:48 pm #306112Bill, can you explain stamping louvers in fiberglass? I removed my side panels and used a router with guides to cut out the vents in my hood. I would like to have vents in my top panels also, but have not found something I like yet.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedApril 17, 2019 at 9:56 pm #306040That is one big electric fan! By the way, I used a router and open all the fake vents in my hood sides. It worked pretty well and the engine seems to run cooler. Or at least I think it does.

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedMarch 17, 2019 at 7:45 pm #305952That sounds like a great deal. Especially with the fold down windshield and wire wheels. Reliability sounds good too.
Roy – I have a friend with a Fiberfab who really wants a folding windshield. How did you get yours? Modification of an original? Thanks. Ric

Chevy 2.8 V6, 5 speedMarch 13, 2019 at 10:59 pm #305864I have a 1986 BCW Type 52 which is a very good replica of the 1952 MGTD. And I also have an original 1952 MGTD. It is the original that is for sale. I have put too much money and time into the BCW to sell it now. The original is not all original as it has a Volvo engine and transmission which solves the MGTD drivability issues. It can be bought for about the same as a good replica and it will probably increase in value.
