Getting pretty dang close.I finished the dash wiring and after after troubleshooting some original wiring issues everything is working as it should. The upholsterer was supposed to show up Saturday to give me an estimate and possibly start but they had a family emergency so I’ll have to reschedule. While I waited for them I did a lot of test…[Read more]

Welcome Ernie. Happy building. You have a great depth of resources on this site. These guys have been awesome holding my hand during my own build. You’ll love it.

Doug,It’s great to watch someone else put the puzzle together. Mine is a Duchess so I’m not sure I can be much help but I’ll enjoy the show.

Need some experiential input. So I’m close to getting on the road so I need insurance. I’ve read this thread several times and followed the advice given by calling a number of specialty insurers. But what each of them told me was that they basically only insure for show cars that are driven to shows and maybe on a sunny Sunday afternoon. When I…[Read more]

Paul, I’ll have to think over your narrative on anchoring the weight
box. It’s not clicking with me without pictures but I’ll get it.Regarding the fuel filler..it’s in place. I have a picture of the filler hose in place but didn’t post it. Thanks for asking though. As of today I got the dash installed. I have some more wiring to do but sho…[Read more] -

I’ve been doing a lot of little things to get ready for some larger install activity and finally got some of it done.I
got the headlight cradle arms installed. But the picture below is a
good example of how I’ve struggled getting holes line up during the
rebuild. I’ve check every hole/bolt/rivet and I am definitely putting
them back right. Wh…[Read more] -

I will ask him about it. He has done some side jobs before but let me see what he says.

Yes, my son did an excellent job on the tank. The weld seams look like they were done by a machine.I haven’t filled the tank yet but according to my calculations (yes I used algebra in real life…don’t tell my math teacher) it will hold 11 gallons.

Ed, as you know the running board is bolted between the front and rear
fenders and is riveted to the body. When it didn’t reach to the rear
fender I put the bolts on both ends and slowly tightened each end while
using a long thin punch in the already existing rivet hole to push it
along.I was a little worried the old fiberglass was too brittle…[Read more] -

Rear fenders mounted. I still have to work on the passenger side a little but at least it’s on. As you can see from the first picture I had a little more “stretching” to do but I eventually got it.I mounted the cowl today al!so. It’s starting to look like a real car

The interior will be tan but I liked the black grill slats. Sorry it’s not to code but it’s to my liking so I’ll stick with it.It took a while but I got it put in place and secured today along with the rear frame cover. Still struggling with holes not lining up but that’s where a lever or a drill come in handy.Welting arrives tomorrow so I’ll g…[Read more]

I got lots of little things done today but hard to capture in photos. However, I did get the grill assembled and ready for installation.I wont’ go into the details but it took me all day of working on it to get it done. It was in very bad shape when I got the car and I wasn’t even sure I could resurrect it. But after a full day of multiple tr…[Read more]

Off to a great start for the holiday break. The welting took longer than I expected but it came out pretty straight. The first fender didn’t quite line up with all the holes but a little “stretching” and I got it.The second one went on a little easier but I still have to finish the riveting.Hopefully I’ll have more pics in the coming days.

I’m rebuilding, from the ground up, a 1982 Classic Roadster Duchess on a VW frame. I already have a thread under My Project forumhttps://tdreplica.com/forums/topic/running-progress-report/

George, the upholstery, convertible top, and tonneau are things I will definitely leave to the experts. I thought about tackling the seats but decided I wanted it done right, and quickly which immediately sealed my decision to outsource it.I believe it those items will be the only ones I didn’t do myself. Being a control freak is tiring.
