Toller: do not allow your turn signal switch to dictate where and how you sit in the car. Get a little butane torch and heat it up and bend it. If it breaks, epoxy it back on. Or do what I did: use an old pen–hollow it out and epoxy THAT on the turn signal nub.
Or just lop it off and wire the signals to a three-way toggle switch on the… -

Original TD wheels are hard to come by. Many are a bit out of true as well, and they are often pitted. These are tube rims, and they lack the “safety lip” that all modern automotive wheels have. That lip keeps the tire from coming off in the event of a high-speed blowout. It’s hardly ever a factor, but in the rare case, you’re glad it’s there.
So… -

Spechols, I believe that what you did was almost exactly what billnparts did a few years ago.

So, I thought I just HAD to have “real” knock off wire wheels on my VW based TDr. But the only ones I found were 14″.
I bought them and adapted them to my MiGi. Lotsa work and some extra expense. Your 185-75r14’s are almost exactly the same overall diameter as the 165/15’s that are popular on VW’s. However, they are a bit fatter. Looki…[Read more] -

David, with regard to interference with the turn signal switch many of us have cut and or bent our VW switch levers to get them out of the way of the steering wheel. ……or, you could go with a dash mounted turn signal switch like original TD’s had.

Yes, I’ve moved that seat back to mount up on the rear shelf. Just move it back to where you are comfortable then cut it down to keep the height reasonable. I moved it 4 times before it got to where it is now.

Hey guys, I believe that billnparts has moved his seat back and up somewhat because he is no small fella…..and he drives a lot, so it must be comfortable (for him). I’ve been in Bills TDr – lotsa room. As I recall, Schu has done some modifications to his seating position also. I went through a pretty thorough steering wheel search a whi…[Read more]

I was 5’11” and abt 212# with the short legs of one who was only 5’2″ when I got my MIGI. I found that moving the steering column up (if your’s is mounted below the dash) made the seating position much more comfortable. It involves cutting into your dash, but is not too difficult. Also, moving the wheel close as possible to the dash made a bi…[Read more]

You can never have too many ground cables/straps.

Yeah, the folding windshield works fine with cowl-mounted wipers. The TF had that setup.

True that the cowl mounted VW wipers look like they could interfere, but mine are comfortable under the windshield when folded. No problem. (Daytona MIGI with brackets that I modified.)

Thanks, Jack. I have ordered from them a couple times. I suspect it’s cheaper if you can pick up stuff locally, and way cheaper to go pick stuff from a scrapper or metal recycling outfit, but you can’t beat the convenience.

Hey Ed,
That link to http://WWW.ONLINEMETALS.COM is a GREAT reference for anyone needing metal to build/patch/fix stuff — but a lot of people may not click on it in the post so I thought I’d highlight it for folk’s future reference…. -

Subaru?? If BILLNPARTS has one to go along with his Tdr it’s gotta be a WRX…!!! as in speed, agility, fun to drive — sort of like a Tdr, only with the speed and agility added…

I was thinking along the same lines as Ed but I was pushing snow up to my hood on the Subaru this morning. Had to dig myself out twice just to get to work. Traction not the problem, just not enough ground clearance. The MG can rest quietly.

Snowing here and I had the same idea–until I came to my senses. I really do want some Bridget-in-Snow pictures though.

The original top stays are pretty simple and Moss sells them (90a–$6). You just embed the sockets in a piece of hardwood, 2 x 5/4 or so, and wrap that in the canvas. You then just need two thumb screws to hold the front bow to the windshield pins.
To use the zip-in side curtains just have your top maker put the zipper along the sides of the top.… -

…the April showers are not as bad as the Jan/Feb cold and ice. My blood must have really thinned out since I moved to NC 30 ears ago. I prefer to leave that cold weather driving to folks in higher latitudes, like Ed and Bill and Paul….and that Michigan, Minnesota, Montana etc. crowd.

I guess the easiest solution would be a Vicenc-style plan modified for the South — park it in January and take it out again when rains end in March…:-)
