I, too, like the rat-rod look. Do you still have the front fenders?

I’ll assume that you are going to rebuild the carb. After you do and before re-installing on the manifold, turn the carb upside down and blow into the fuel inlet. It will give you some confidence that the float is actually going to stop fuel when the bowl is “full”. (As a side benefit, it takes me back 60+ years to when I used to siphon gas out…[Read more]

If it’s designed for a Ford setup, check out some of the Pinto forums. Those guys are still finding good ones for sale. As all you need is a donor, one should be available for parts. Also check out the ads in the Street Rod or specialty kars magazines. Everybody has Mustang II suspension and steering parts. Set up of choice as it’s simple and plentiful.

Winter in NY. Dress Blues. Which made it even more embarrassing. I always thought and still think that a cop in a MGB is simply not “fair”.

I have owned quite a few “”slow” cars, and a couple of fast ones (911S). I couldn’t agree more that slow cars driven to their limit are much more fun than fast ones to the same speed. I have always thought that “too fast” was a better measure than “fast” and that occurs at a much lower (and safer) speed in something like our TDr’s. It was a da…[Read more]

Ed, If you’re lucky, this tube got lodged in the intake manifold or the head trying to make its way into the cylinder during the brief time that the intake valve was open. A bit less lucky, it did get hammered between the intake valve and its seat (the knocking you heard) and a compression test should reveal. Less lucky still, it made its way in…[Read more]

John, I think that you are missing the point here. Kent’s discussion is about the height of the chassis as this affects the angles that the torsion bars and the front end geometry. This has nothing to do with the height of the fenders or the body. I believe that the VW chassis (from the ground up to the floor pan on level ground) is suppos…[Read more]

If I left the cage on my car I could fit one of those Range Rover baskets on top and I COULD carry all that stuff that went into that Speedster. 😉

John, here’s what I always carry (VW): First aid kit, fire extinguisher, air compressor, spare dist with points and cap, one extra ign wire, coil, voltage regulator, 15′ #12 wire switch alligator clips on each end, duct tape, iron wire, fuses, fuel filter and of course a Bible. 🙂 If you can make it to the Auto & Air show, I’ll buy you dinner.

I was thinking of organizing a “Cannonball Baker Memorial Sea toShining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash” for only cars that were or looked like they were made before 1962. TDs, 356s, Healeys and hot rods. Want to start in Ocean City, but Va Beach would do.
