Looks a lot like Paul’s Dutchess

Looks nice. I’ve never heard of Empress. Did they buy and assemble Fiberfab kits?

Surface Warfare? Good grief! NO! A THOUSAND TIMES, NO! I am retired Navy, – spent 24 years in the SUBMARINE FORCE. They are SUBMARINE GOLD DOLPHINS. (I started out, enlisted, on a WWII diesel boat and retired as an officer from Nukes.)

What material are the numbers? I had vinyl numbers made for mine years ago but they would not stick.

That car shows pretty well. I especially like the interior, which was obviously done by a pro.
Roy: your car is white and that’s all right. I sometimes wish mine was still green because so many of them now are red. -

This is amost like my Daytona TDr (with a folding windshield). Dash is not wood (unusual for a TDr). Dash mounted cylinder head temp and clock, also unusual. Impossible to reach emergency brake. Super plush upholstery. Top looks good. Rear bumper over-riders spaced too far apart. Lots of chrome on the engine. This TDr shows well, dontcha…[Read more]

HA! Nice, Roy! Welcome to the fold-flat windshield club.
Love those numbers too. You are in the lead! -

Looks like the car does too. Hope someone gives it one, but at $8500 I don’t see it happening very soon.

It’s different enough from the TD and from other TD replicas that it’s its own thing. The doors, forward hinged. The rear engine cover treatment, those craaazy-big tail lights and especially the hard side windows can’t, in my mind, be squared with the idea of “TD Replica.”
It is a tribute to the style of the MGs and, arguably, the flat-grilled… -

Thanks. The trailer light bolts to a 3″ piece of holed angle steel like you’d use to hold the tracks for your garage door. Steel bolts to the license plate bracket. Wires are spliced into the driver’s brake light wire.

He may have taken 3 trophies home but any of the Carlisle gang could have beaten him. Might be a nice car, but:I don’t like the wheels. Spare doesn’t match those mounted. Inside of doors are not finished.Does not look like a great upholstery job.No air cleaner, no heater hoses, tin missing, no oil breather and I don’t like the…[Read more]

Paul, yes, I agree. The biggest problem I see is that my upside-down lazy “T” brackets are no longer available. They are rather heavy aluminum and could be cast quite easily assuming a foundry could be located and two sample brackets could be obtained.

Original Daytona TD sales brochures advertised that a folding windshield was an option. I didn’t think that I had it since I had studied Ed’s and Jack’s BCW and my brackets are slightly different. The windshield to frame rubber is quite different and I didn’t have any wingnuts holding the frame to the brackets. Also, I have an aluminum…[Read more]

I agree with Paul. It’s a replica. However, it is my understanding that Lafer was not sold as a kit. So it is not a MGTD “kit” car. Eh?

Well, Bridget runs again. I finished assembling the engine and was pleased to find I had no pieces left over. I torqued the exhaust manifold bolts to about 26 ft-lbs, replaced the rear oxygen sensor with a new Denso unit, put a gallon of antifreeze in and almost a gallon of water, and she started right up.
I was surprised the oil pressure gauge… -

Def Lafer. The short grille and VW signal lights also eliminate BCW from contention.

I agree with George. The Lafer is its own thing. It’s TDesque enough to run with us though, as the differences are too subtle for the average motorist to spot.

Not much, John. I still need to put the alternator back on. And actually I’m going to take it in for testing because I think it’s NG even though it’s basically new.
I’ve got to wire in my new heater diverter valve, then open it so the heater core can fill when I refill the cooling system. While I’m at that I think I’ll put a cigarette lighter under… -
