Hmm. TDr is under 4 feet high; you could raise it 6 feet in that place, which would give you room enough to park any car and most light trucks ‘neath it.
Just sayin’. -

You may, by turning up idle speed, be masking a vacuum leak. While idling, you can squirt engine oil around the throttle shafts and intake manifold at the base of the carb and where the manifold mates up to the heads. Squirt, and listen carefully for changes. Don’t hurry. Any change indicates a vacuum leak. The engine may not respond…[Read more]

BUMMER. I don’t own a lift either, for the same reason.

Kent, I’m very jealous. I hope you planned enough ceiling height for an eventual lift.

VW says 900.
Make sure there’s noting fouling it in the air cleaner, choke butterfly is right.Look for the wire that attaches to the carb–there’s a kill valve on the later Solexes to stop run-on. Could be a loose connection there. Check all the connections. Make sure the distributer is in tight. Rock the engine front to back to be sure the… -

I believe that the float would have to be WAY off to experience this. More likely, assuming it is not an intermittent electrical prob is that the carb mixture is too lean, and when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal to apply the brake, the throttle butterfly goes shut and starves the engine. Back off on the mixture screw a bit (see Rob…[Read more]

The main pipe is aluminized 1.5 inch exhaust pipe I had a muffler shop bend. I also have several bits of 1.5 rubber radiator hose and some stainless “flex” pipe I got from one of the on-line hotrod outlets. The connections to the radiator reduce from 1.5 to 1.25 ID.
Here’s some detail on the install. The heater circuit runs through regular hose and… -

OK, engine back in car.
I started the day tackling the trans oil leak through the reverse switch. To get the switch out I had to loosen the shift coupler, jack up the car front and back, remove my front trans mounts and back out the rear giant mounting bolts pretty much all the way. That let me slide the transmission back about 3/4 of an inch so i… -

I had originally used the lamp from a GEO Tracker mounted to a simple bent piece of flat aluminum. After the repainting I now have an LED as the center cap of the wire cover on the spare tire.

That windshield kit looks viable. But remember, your cowl is probably not the same width as a TD.

edward ericson replied to the topic LED Light Bulbs in the forum My Project 10 years, 11 months ago
I used a single trailer light mounted atop the license plate bracket. Can’t hurt, I figure. It’s a plain 2-filament bulb that lights with the headlights and lights even more with the brake lights.
I’ve not yet been impressed with leds for this application. -

Julie & I lived in southwest Fl, on Pine Island for a few years, and those raccoons got so bold as to come in our house at night (through the doggie door) and root through our kitchen cabinets, the refrigerator and the pantry until they found something tasty. This was not uncommon. Eventually had to housebreak our elderly and spoiled dog, just…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Speedometer in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 11 months ago
Speedometer ought to read 0 when the car isn’t moving, whether the engine is on or not.
Do you mean the tachometer?A lot of times, as they get older, they don’t go all the way back to zero. Not a worry, I’d say, unless you were really depending on its accuracy for racing. -
