I have that tool that Paul linked. Not that brand, but the same type of contraption. It sucks cleaner from a container through a vacuum hose into the intake manifold. Works fine on today’s fuel injected cars but would do nothing for cleaning a carb. Speaking of ethanol…have you checked this?http://pure-gas.org/

Not quite. This system (I think) hooks up to an aerosol can and squirts cleaner into the air plenum. It would possibly clean the manifolds, valves, and combustion chambers but do nothing for carb internal passages and accelerator pump. The kit I remember was not aerosol but liquid that you ran through the fuel circuit actually cleaning those…[Read more]

Thanks Allen. I guess that’s one of the few brain cells I didn’t kill. Short of taking the carb off and rebuilding, it’s the only carb cleaner I ever had any confidence in.

The SAGA continues —
Thanks Kent for your help on the phone — Roy and I were stumped over valve clearance numbers that seemed to change from time to time with no reason. Roy discovered that the valve rocker adjusters had a ball with a flat spot that should have been in contact with the valve stem, but was NOT during some of the measurements. … -

Bill, I use pure-gas.org to find my non ethanol gas. It’s been pretty reliable here in NC.

The SAGA continues…
Last evening, Roy called and asked if my DELLORTO carbs were 45’s or 48’s and I could not remember, so I went out to look……and found oil all over the right back bumper and engine cowling…and I was down a little over a quart in the crankcase.By the way, the carbs are Dellorto DRLA 45’s..I wiped up as much oil as I could… -

Annnnd . . . .
back homeMy guy Mike’s out with shoulder surgery. Steve told me to try again next Monday: “He might man-up and come in.”This just about guarantees there’ll be no Bridget at Carlisle. Ah well. Sooo close. -

Thanks. PVC has many uses around the home & office. I left the bumpers off. I might put on the rear one though just as insurance. It’d be no good in a rear-end crash, but it does catch the spare tire if the clips holding it come loose.

Buttoned up for towing–maybe tomorrow a.m. she’ll head to the muffler shop. There I hope I’ll get
1. coolant hard lines, front to back–plus a tricky J-bend on the driver’s side to meet the top hose from the engine.2. Full exhaust–there’s a 2 1/4-in ID glass pack in the car now and the old Suby pipes as well. I need the new rig to be shorter by… -

Nice! Those temps sound better than should be expected. Hope it stays like that & look forward to seeing her in the flesh in a couple weeks.

I forgot to post the temp and oil pressure specs:
On the run at 65 mph, the #3 cyl head temp ran around 325 and the oil temp was running right around 190. When I goosed it up to 75, the cyl head temp ran up to about 360 and then fell back to 350. For the last 20 minutes of the run driving between 60 and 65, the #3 cyl temp ran right at 325-340 a… -

Hey folks.
I just got back from a 50 mile run in my BCW. WOW. This car is WAY fast and a little scary. I still have to get used to the steering, handling and the burst of speed in ANY gear. The car has a temp sensor under #3 plug as well as a temp and oil pressure gauges. On the high speed run on the 4-lane, the speed limit was 70, and I hit… -

I have not mounted it yet.
I took the rubber donut bits from the soob. I plan to make an L-frame from some sheet metal for the bottom mount and bolt it from the front. The isolators will sit on that.On top there are two bolts holding the fiberglass side panels to the grill shell. Another L bracket there facing down should reach the top bungs.… -

So The sensor seller asked for pics of the part and a description, and when I sent that he sent me another sensor–this one with three wires. Appears the missing wire on the original one was a defect. The new one just came and tested good.
Meanwhile, Shiels sent back my wiring harness with instructions. That looks righteous as well. So today I’m… -
