I bought my first MGT in 1968 while living in Rhode Island. So, I figgered that I would assemble my normal top, lay Saran Wrap or something similar over it and then lay fiberglass cloth over that. I figured that the fiberglass would not adhere to the Saran Wrap, but so what if it did? Then I would carefully remove the fiberglass top-shaped en…[Read more]

Jeff, I once had a tow dolly that was too wide to tow a TD. That is to say that the wheels fell inside of the dolly’s recesses because the TD track was too narrow.
I doubt that your front wheels have an ignition lock and if they do not then you could not tow backwards. Why would you want to anyway?I have flat towed my TDr over 3000 miles in… -

I never knew a tool like that existed. Gonna have to get me one of them darn things.

Dennis, you seem to have found the Achilles’ Heel of TD replicas. Getting yourself inside and closed up to the weather is so cumbersome, it is quite laughable. You can take some comfort in knowing that if you succeed to get the curtains on, they are much more “weatherproof” than original TD side curtains are.
This tool makes it much easier: <… -
edward ericson replied to the topic synthetic oil in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 9 months ago
I use synthetic or semi-synthetic in the daily drivers to stretch the time between changes and because it may lubricate better in the mean time.
Bridget gets regular oil because, as an air-cooled VW with no oil filter, I need to change her oil every 1500 miles or less, owing to the amount of “fuel wash” her magnesium engine naturally causes.Dig?I… -

Paul, in a very few months, I turn 72. Believe me, I know about stiff!
You are correct that if you add coil-overs you are transferring some of the weight from the torsion bars to the new coils. My car was riding un-naturally low on the port side. I do all my own work and will until I sell my TDr. If my intended job is so difficult that it t… -

Kent, you ask a good question as usual. Normally, I would see no need for helper/coil overs on a lightened vehicle. But, my port side was down a lot and the only reason(s) I could come up with are that the builder mis-adjusted the rear torsion bars before he put the tub on or that the previous owner weighed 562 pounds and I was looking at some r…[Read more]

I had enough room to put coil over springs around the existing shocks. Works well and looks good. Not some cobbled up job.
However, if I had to do it again, I would try the shocks like you are linking to. I think that they will do the job and also provide some measure of adjustment. Good luck. -

In MD it’s antique after 25 years. So my 1982 build date rated the “Historic” tag–never mind the ’69 chassis, ’66 engine or ’52 styling.

Bill, I thought that my grandson’s go kart went too fast and suggested he needed a cage. This is what he came up with: (Hope you can use some of the ideas.)

No “rear body panels” for the hill climb? Time to post pics of that, Bill! You talking about the fiberglas pseudo-“gas tank?”

Me guessing here but I’d think less bolt is better. I believe I read on that Ghia racer’s thread that the snubbers get cut about in half on their application, which woud suggest there is less than full metal inside the snubber.

I hope someone can help here. I have included a couple of pics of the bump stops which are supposed to “fit” atop a post. The hole in the bump stop is a 5/8″ and extends 2-3/8″ into the inside.
So, there is about 3/8″ of rubber at the top of the domed bumper stop. Starting about 1/2″ into the bottom there is a relief of about 1/16″ for the… -

Allen,
I rechecked and as Roy noted on his car, the center bulged area on both of my bump stop mounts are long gone…Once Roy practices on his car, I will try to convince him to improve his skills by practicing his MIG welding technique on mine. I’ll even supply the JB Weld and spray paint for the finishing touch. -

Allen,
I have been trying to figure this out also as I have a bump stop on my passenger side but the driver’s side is missing. All that remains is a semi-flat piece of metal which constituted the base for the bumper. It seems (from a lot of reading on the Samba) that there is supposed to be a mushroom headed bolt that is welded almost ve… - Load More
