Too many items running through one circuit. Run separate fused feeds for each individual component, wipers, radio, lamps, etc.

Yeah, makes sense when you think about what the tank is doing there…
Can anyone else see the glaring assembly error on this one? -

I think my dampner dampens OK but really not sure. How does one check? Also not sure how a bad dampner would feel like an unbalanced wheel.

I like that one. Dig the color scheme. Nice steering wheel. looks pretty presentable. (Take those hubcaps off though)

Amazing! A 71 Beetle is not in the specs any more. Anyway, thanks for the info. I got the shimmies too–been living with them since I got the car. Tried rotating the tires front to back & no good. Thought maybe the tires are out of round. Never thought the rims might be off center.I always tighten them up slow, cross lugbolt, a turn or two at a…[Read more]

A compression check of all 4 cyl, and a check of the crankshaft end thrust might make you feel a bit warmer and fuzzier about your engines capability of taking the excursion. If you are familiar with a vacuum gauge and it’s uses, it would also help diagnose potential problems. If it doesn’t use any oil and has no obvious running problems, it’s p…[Read more]

I say go for it. I would be more worried about my 71+ year old body than the TDr, as MiGi’s running gear is pretty great.
Good luck and as Paul asked, send pics. -

Yeah, you’re crazy. And I am jealous. No way Karen would go for this kind of thing. Not yet, anyway.
There’s a guy in the Speedster group, David Stroud, who has crossed the continent at least thre eor four times with his Speedy. His was air-cooled until last year, when he converted to Subaru power. No AC for him either–he lives in Canada. But he… -

It’ll look a lot better red. White would work too, and feel better. Gray would work if the car was red or deep blue.
How could your wife hate the TD’s interior? Surely, even red, it won’t look anything like whatever hideous thing convinced her she hates all red interiors–which was probably a ’76 Caprice Classic or Torino wagon in red velour crush… -

Grind as in “shave?” I salute the DIY notion but . .. .Very close to the red/green rethread-your-own-tires skit. No performance shops around that could shave them for you? Or is that one of those “might as well buy new for that price” deals?

Kent, I have squeezed them in with a pair of giant (16″) channel lock pliers but a “C” clamp might work, perhaps even better.
