OK, Dennis. x2 on the camber compensator. Swing axle cars don’t handle as well as IRS ones do out of the box, but a lot of Speedster guys have made them into little monsters with the addition of the compensator in the back and a larger (3/4-inch) sway bar in front.
The other problem most of the TD replicas have, as discussed, is too much spring… -

Welcome, Eddy.
Roy: I got all that tire stuff a few years back on the Speedster site. One guy there–forget who–was a career tire shop guy. Owner, i think. Hope I remember what he said & conveyed it right.I shopped the same brainwave on the MG Experience forum and they all just hissed at me. 32 pounds in their cars, if not more. Hookay, guys…. -

My seat base now rests on a 2″ piece of angle instead of the 6″ fiberglass box. The windshield header was directly in my line of vision and I felt like Dino Flintstone when the top was up. The seating position is now quite comfortable. Also, consider changing the position of the seat back.

You could also consider doing the seat fix I posted someplace on this site – lowered my sitting high about 3-4″and much more comfortable ( No more DBS )

Dennis,
Reduce your front tire pressure to 18#. Then take her out and push a bit on some of those great roads you have. In my experience, assuming good tires – while it is true that it is possible to have the rear end spin out, it is really unlikely that it will surprise you. What I am saying is that the front end will likely lose traction fir… -

I’d mock it up and see how it looks first, for sure. Then, after deciding how it looks with six inches more windscreen, lower your seat.

I was going to post Ed’s autocross results, but decided to let him blow his own horn. What Ed says deserves study. I do not find our TD’s to be slow. Rather, they are very responsive and quite quick. The reduced weight of our TDrs gives them plenty adequate power/weight for a sports car.
I really suspect that you may need some tweaking of you… -

Just sayin’: the vw kit I drive turned in better autoX times than did four(?) miatas and a Suby WRX. And that’s with 45 horsepower. And stock suspension. So how sporty are you looking to be?

I’m going to have to bow out of this thread as I never really liked the MGB. I have had a Bugeye, TR6, MGTF-1500, a few Sunbeams, 911s and a Lancia Zagato up in NY. I always thought the Bugeye and the MGTF were the most sports car like (which I will loosely define as “fun”). This is too subjective for me. Sorry, but I always felt that the MGB…[Read more]

All VW based TD kits are basically the same. (exception:The London Roadster and a couple of others have modified front ends.)
This threadis a good one to read carefully. Some of the modifications here make rather dramatic changes in handling. It is very difficult to tell… -

Ed, where did you get the tire inflation pressure thumb rule? It does make sense, but I have never seen this in print (until you put it there). I like it. All these comments about tire pressure really should be in their own dedicated post/thread.

Tire shops jam 35 lbs into every tire because knuckle monkeys work there. They don’t know, they don’t care. As a result, most of us are running overinflated tires–especially on the TDs. Our cars weigh so little compared to every modern car that it’s actually dangerous–as well as uncomfortable– to drive around with “tire shop standard”…[Read more]

You might be able to get it tighter by adjusting the steering stops. There is a bolt and a stop nut near the pittman arm attached to the beam.
