    Hi  David,

It was great meeting you at Carlisle and I hope the trip back up North after our Rainy Carlisle Outing was uneventful and fun!!

I have not had experience with the CB Performance 34PICT replacement but everything I hear about CB Performance is good.  I was asking John at AIRCOOLED.NET  about getting a Redline Weber Carb kit and he st…[Read more]

  • Hey Kentt —

I appreciate your 2 cents — I’ll check out the spring, the vanes and the thermostat — and take your advice about leaving that system intact….

As to the center mount, the intake manifold that is included with the Weber has provisions for the heat risers — but apparently they were misplaced some years before and were not in…[Read more]

  • Good point Allen — I do have a doghouse cooler on this engine — so the engine temp should be more stable and even.  I also have a #3 cylinder temperature monitor so I can tell how hot #3 is and then extrapolate from that how the whole engine is doing heat wise.  That monitoring setup is leftover from when I had the 2332cc engine in the car, bu…[Read more]

  • Hey Eddy &  John,

I know what you mean about wishing you did not have a temp gauge installed — ignorance is bliss — for a while at least….and I don’t even live in the “hot” part of the country like you folks in Las Vegas and beyond (although is is 97 in the shade here today in Coastal North Carolina).

    I’ve read a lot (mostly warnings)…[Read more]

Allen, if you search “door locks” you will find a bunch of posts from a few years ago that address a sure fire way to keep your doors closed and allow you to sleep better.

  • “a bit of an expert on rebuilding carburetors”??   Hardly!  (It’s all sleight of hand.)

  • Hey Folks,

I’m just now getting around to dealing with some issues I had way back at Carlisle in May — namely:

  •  getting the driver’s side windshield wiper to stay on the shaft (had to drive from Carlisle to the hotel on the PA Turnpike — don’t ask — with no wipers in a hefty rain storm…)
  • Dealing with why the engine temp went up to 220…

  • I would first loosen the body side hinge mounting bolts and see if you can maneuver the door in the direction you want. Over the years I’ve elongated or slotted almost every mounting point on my car for wiggle room.

  • I’m with Roy. A 10′ run of cable require something large.

  • Royal replied to the topic Battery Cable Length in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 1 month ago

IMHO #6 AWG is too small.

I would not be comfortable with smaller wire than gauge 1/0.  There are a lot of variables which go into determining the right size, I planned for 150 amp starter draw (cold morning tough start condition) and 10 ft total wire (positive + negative).

  • Vicenc,

Sounds like Lois and I are in but need to talk about timing because we need to make out way up either Friday evening or cruise up very early Saturday morning.

Maybe speak about this through email. Will send you a PM.

Threw a wheel bearing last time out so still need to fix – been to hot to work in the garage.

    September should be much…[Read more]

  • That’s the way.

  • I like the battery up front for ballast. My car does not have any sand or rocks up front to add weight, but the battery weighs 40 or 50 pounds and sits just behind the front wheels, so I figure that helps keep the nose planted when I get too enthusiastic going up the on ramp. I’d use one of the mini batteries if mine was located aft of the car’s…[Read more]

  • One of the nicest I have ever seen.

  • Depends on how you route it, I’d think. Why not mock it up with a length of clothesline or anchor rope first?

  • As this thread is jumping around, I’d like to add that when Patti and myself travelled through Pittsburgh for the MINI takes the States event during the Vintage Grand Prix week we enjoyed a good dinner and car show with Bill and Audrey. Thanks, Bill.

  • Vicenc, didn’t we talk about this once when we first met at Carlisle?  I believe that your top bows are not mounted where most/many are.  This can be somewhat compensated for by adjusting the length of the bows.  You might do well to examine closely some of the other Fiberfab member’s bow installations.  (The tubing that typically is used for the…[Read more]

  • Royal replied to the topic Defective Condenser in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 1 month ago

Allen, I apologize but your post about testing the condenser is simply wrong.

A condenser can not and should not be thought of as a diode.  A condenser will “charge” up when a voltage is applied across it, as current is stored in the condenser.  To test a condenser (automotive) you can apply voltage either way and it is most easily done with a s…[Read more]
