You could also try to find one of the speed monitoring displays on the highway where they display your speed as you are approaching the check point

Actually I love them – – they hit the nail on the head
June 25, 2009 at 7:56 am #239092Hi Don,
I just sent you an email. I am a nuclear worker also!
June 24, 2009 at 1:24 pm #238445Do you still have the windshield?
September 18, 2008 at 1:55 pm #237502dbrock,
Not sure about the Migi 2 wiring. I went through my wiring when I first got mine and went back & forth between that diagram and the VW factory manual wiring diagram and there were very few (only minor) differences in what I saw (and updated) in my car. I’m not sure if the previous owner made everything identical to the ’69 VW wiring layout or not, but it seemed to match very closely. I had some switch problems but most of my work centered around the voltage regulator (I replaced it) and the generator.
September 18, 2008 at 1:22 pm #237495I have a secret to reveal. The rear view mirrors on the sides of the windshield are actually Suzuki motorcycle mirrors.

I just finished up replacing the front-end on my 51 MiGi (69 VW underneath). I replaced the steering box as well. If you have made sure that your steering linkage is OK, then you can try adjusting the steering box. Muir’s book has a procedure, and the VW factory manual will have a procedure as well. The adjustment is the screw/nut assembly that protrudes through a hole in the front panel to the right of the radiator (as viewed from the front). This adjustment will tighten the steering action, but follow the procedure. Also, check the bolts on the steering gear box housing to make sure they aren’t loose. Mine were, so I replaced the box entirely because I don’t know how long it has ran without lubrication.
August 11, 2008 at 10:11 am #237448I changed my timing from 25 deg BTDC to 32 deg BTDC and it seems to run cooler. We’ve had some cooler days and that helped. It runs consistently around 225 now. I’m still looking into ways to bring it down even more. Full-flowing is something I might try this winter when I have it stored in the garage.
August 11, 2008 at 7:51 am #237438I re-fitted the fuel inlet tube with epoxy, and I am going to safety wire everything after thinking about it some more.
Years ago I lost a car (67 Olds Cutlass, brand new) to a fire. I was driving along and kept hearing a car horn behind but wasn’t paying much attention. Suddenly, the engine quit and everything on the dash lit up. I pulled over, and got out and the guy behind me pulled over (he was the one blowing his horn). The whole underside of my car was on fire! He said he thought he had a fire exinguisher. I ran across the street to call the fire dept. By the time I came back out the car was engulfed in flames. It didn’t explode like you see on tv (I know it could have). I could only stand there and watch. The hood bent in two from the heat, then the car tried to start itself for a bit, then the horn came on and blew for a while. Then the fire dept. showed up. Only thing missing was marshmallows.

August 6, 2008 at 7:43 am #237445Pink,
Thanks. The tin is chrome that the PO put on the engine so I’m in the process of determining if all the correct stuff is there. I know the thermostat is gone but I don’t know about the flaps, etc. The temp is coming from the oil sending unit. Also, the reason I asked about the compartment is that on a bug or a buggy the air can escape but in the Fiberfab compartment it can only go out the bottom.
July 14, 2008 at 12:10 pm #237407I would be very grateful to get a copy of what you have.
THANKS

June 24, 2008 at 12:13 pm #237396Thanks Pink! I’m going to fabricate something and put a real spare on the rear. MG Magic has a bracket kit & cover but I’ve haven’t gotten his mail brochure yet to see how much it is.
We got our Fiberfab MiGi yesterday afternoon and must have driven it for four hours. I hated to go home. I have never been so enthralled by a vehicle before, even though I am a motorhead. I’m also excited that I’ve found this site! Great bunch of guys!
I stopped at Autozone last night and my wife & I went in to get a car cover. When we went to the counter all the guys were standing there asking me about the car. Before I knew it they were all out in the parking lot looking it with customers in the store. I took my nephew a ride and he said it was wired how everyone kept staring at us….
I’m 53 but I feel like a kid…
June 20, 2008 at 12:48 pm #237394I just found the answer to my question. Read the posts here and called MG Magic.
