Re: The question about the roll bar. I put one on mine and then attached three point seat belts to it, much safer. It sits just under the front bow for the roof and is made of 1/4″ rolled steel turned to 2” in diameter. Triangulated support attached directly to the frame (very similar to the design used for the TD 2000.

June 13, 2009 at 10:39 am #239072Thanks for the prompt reply Pink MG. The rack is a rebuild from NAPA Autoparts.
May 6, 2009 at 12:46 am #238845You guys are so great to talk to….you actually confirmed what I had been thinking….now way more willing to try it with your support…and yes I can see what you mean about streching the base of the tube a bit…it must have slipped out really easily because it was so smooth and narrow.
Will keep you posted on my progress!!

PS Happy driving…just wish the weather here on the We(s)t Coast would clear up and be sunny…No fun driving in the rain!!!!
May 5, 2009 at 12:09 pm #238843My issue is not so much getting the guide to stay in,more trying to get at the entrance on the block without having to jack up the engine. Any easy suggestions for dealing with that?
We’re having trouble accessing the hole easily.

March 7, 2009 at 6:32 pm #238282Thanks for the update, sorry I didn’t respond earlier, just haven’t been on the site recently….caught up with other stuff… and our weather has not exactly been cooperating when it comes to doing work on the car…it is in a carport, not a fully enclosed garage

February 18, 2009 at 6:57 pm #238279Whereabouts are you located Mark?
The info you have given me is really helpful and I am passing it on to the friend of mine who is helping me with the updates that I want to add to the car (right now we are designing a roll bar that mounts right onto the frame ( very discreet but adds to the safety of the car).
The fact that you have a rack is great and if you are close to BC we may be able to make some arrangement for purchase and delivery
Thanks so much Jennifer
November 24, 2008 at 1:27 am #237817Thank you all for this great info. The drive-train is 4-speed manual and don’t worry I’m really easy on the accelerator and brake as I have the same issue with my 2005 RAV4 (which is also a Great car!)
Ringo I would be grateful for the Duraspark info and Pink MG I intennd to check out Royal Purple (sounds like something bees feed to their Queen!!)
Otherwise the remainder of your suggestions make a lot of sense and have booked some time with a friend and my local garage to get them all done, putting in a roll-bar at the same time so I can install 3-point seat belts and then do the Chuckanut Drive down in Washington State in the spring.
Happy Driving Guys

Jennifer here from just north of you on Salt Spring Island.
Have just acquired my first ’52 TD rep (from Lafayette, Georgia – bought on EBay).
I am looking at putting shoulder belts in my car and as I plan to put in a roll bar am glad to hear that that is the best way to mount them.
Looking forward to doing a trip down the Chuckanut when the weather is better!!!!

November 18, 2008 at 12:36 am #237810Not getting much joy from the Pinto site, signed up but they still haven’t approved me yet! (Wonder what I did to offend them?!?)
Will try the others you suggested, Ringo. Not that interested in performance unless it involves reducing gas consumption, up here in Canada it’s EXPENSIVE compared to you over the Line.
Will follow up
