Welcome, Chuck! I haven’t made it to Carlisle myself (it would be a long drive from Texas!) but you should be in good company as several of our members make the trek annually. Your (or your wife’s) car looks like a beauty. Congratulations, and enjoy the ride.

That scene where the TD catches fire always brings a tear to my eye. The movie itself should be watched every five or six years by married couples; each viewing will reveal something new about your relationship. John’s right about the soundtrack, which is, unfortunately, very hard to find. Jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd did an album of movie themes–…[Read more]

I remember looking at it a couple years ago. Kind of amusing, but doesn’t seem to have any interest in TD replicas, let alone Lafers.

The one on the right is the ejector seat switch. Be careful with that one. 😐

Could you present a photographic record of the build, along with receipts for parts, labor, etc?

I don’t have a radio. The music of the open road is enough. 🙂

I’ll park my opinion right next to Ed’s. Houston is huge — 600 square miles — and no stranger to property crime. But in the eight years I’ve owned and driven my Lafer here, I’ve never lost anything from it or worried that it wouldn’t be right where I left it anywhere in town. Too many times to count, I’ve returned to find one or more somewhat…[Read more]

A few years back I drove the Lafer to our nearby Lowe’s for some plumbing parts. Came out to find two nice-looking women in their 40s admiring it. When they realized I was about to get in it, one said she was Brazilian and hadn’t seen a Lafer in years, then asked if I might be available for marriage. I waggled my wedding ring finger at her and…[Read more]

I’ve always loved the look of those flat-rad Mogs. If only I hadn’t found my calling as one of print journalism’s ink-stained wretches, and pursued a career that paid well. [Sigh]

Even with the Lafer, which has actual glass side windows, if you drive in the rain you’re going to get at least a little damp. My solution is not to drive in the rain. In fact, my windows probably haven’t been up more than half a dozen times in the eight years that I’ve driven my car — and then only to help ward off what passes for a winter’s…[Read more]

Roy and Ed are correct, of course. I was looking at one of the guy’s projects, reading about another one, and got the two mixed up. Here’s the TF he was working on (using parts from Moss Motors, if I read it right):

I just looked at that site, and I think it primarily sells vintage British car decals and illustrations, with a sideline blog about the owner’s past cars and restorations. This is a dash he apparently worked on for a friend with an MG-TF:
I’d love to redo my Lafer’s dash along those lines, but don’t have the money to have it done or the e…[Read more]
