A flat tappet motor needs ZDDP oil. Many companies make it. I wonder who Hemmings gets their’s from? They don’t make it themselve’s. A good ZDDP oil designed for flat tappet engine’s will work. I did notice that after I changed my oil for the first time , the engine seemed to run much smoother. The prior owner was using standard 40 weight oil.

It seems that I sleep much better with my head in the sand. You guys have me worried (again).
I’ve been using Valvoline VR1 10W30 Racing Oil because of its ZDDP content. I just checked Valvoline web site
http://www.valvoline.com/faqs/motor-oil/racing-oil/76 and they seem sensitive to the needs of older engines. Their VR1, is a c… -

To think that once, in the early 80’s, I was considered a cumpeter guru? Today I have no clue why or how these things work. I guess you do have to start from the home page. Thanks.

Thanks Roy. Great resource.Apparently, the way the site is built, you can’t link to a specific state. The home page is at: http://pure-gas.org/

I use “pure gas” in my TD and in all my small engined yard equipment. I like this site and it is 100% accurate in my “neck of the woods”. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=NC

Interesting project buzz. I was under the impression the original TD used wood only for the floors. I guess I was wrong. I’ll have to visit that TD site Paul posted and do some additional reading. That’ll have to be inbetween working the yard, selling my stepson’s 98 Honda, and assisting my step daughter with her new arrival (my step grandson (?)…[Read more]

Are you adding additives or not .I was talking to a car guy who owns a plymouth roadrunner who never burns it ,but it limits where he goes he said ethanol burns hotter. What octane do you guys burn, ethanol and non ethanol .Should i put an add…[Read more]

I’ll just stick with my huge dual axle car hauler. To bad its not enclosed. But my Silverado and trailer combo hauled up a Mustang to Cincinnati and a different one back withoput a hickup. Didn’t know the car was back there most of the time.

There’s much more stress on the windshield in that case with the wind from astern rather than from the front of the car, and I was going to mention that too. that I’d be afraid because of the angle of the glass and the trapping of air, that the windshield would get ripped off or blown out. There are innumerable reasons that that trailer is not…[Read more]
