That’s a rough Allison that was ridden hard and put away wet. And used she was, at 60,000 miles. That might be some sort of MG TD replica record! At least the seller is honest, “project car.”Would love to know how the fan shroud got so rusty. But my fave is the drip pan under the engine. A sign of an oil leaker!

Bill, It doesn’t look like there is much interest in this show. I wrote to them and got a bit of info:
Roy,We do not have a kit car category, as I don’t think we’ve ever had any in attendance.Regardless, we’d love to have you guys join us. The show offers more than your average show, not to mention entry to the museum, which if you have fol… -

All the VW 1600 gaskets will fit. The trick is to make sure that all the old gasket material and sealant is off of the cover as well as the valve head. If you get them nice and clean, they won’t leak.

newkitman replied to the topic Brake Drum Thickness Question in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 8 months ago
Here’s what I got from the folks on the Samba. It pretty much says what Royal did.
There is no spec for drum thickness, but there is for inside diameter, whichis how brake drum wear is measured. The specs are in the Bentley manual, and the maximum I.D. should be cast or stamped in the brake drumitself. -

Samba>65 rear brake drums:
wear limit for rear drums are 231.5 mm (9.114″) Wall thickness should be a minimum of 4.0 mm (.16″) -

I have thre different shop manuals and none of them cover that detail. It’s not even in the Muir book. Will have to drop in on the Samba crew. Perhaps one of them.

This thread taught me something today.I thought that the LR’s on VW pans had the bumps on the running boards and that the custom chassis models did not. After reading Roy’s comment the bumps, I looked in the old photo gallery and saw that JBerry’s car has bumps but MGLRoadste’s car does not. Both cars are custom chassis models. You never get too…[Read more]

Great Bill! Hope that it works out.
Allen, Paul, Rocky, Ed, & Dale, – I know that you guys would enjoy the “Museum”. There were 40+ old planes that you could kick the tires on when I last went. These planes are most all owned by individuals, not the museum. They have the same passion for their machines that we do for our TD’s (just a wee bit… -

That’s a lot like the Wings and Wheels show at the Air Force Museum here in Warner Robins later this month. newkitman2012-09-01 18:32:07

This place is not only cool. It is exceptionally cool. The site is beautiful and loaded with antique vintage military airplanes that still run. This is a functioning special use airport with very capable machine shop capabilities. You will be impressed with the planes. They get them out and run them regularly. If any of you are inter…[Read more]

newkitman replied to the topic fuel problem in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 8 months ago
I’ve installed filters but I don’t put them in the line from the pump to the carb. I put them up front just above where the fuel tube enters the tunnel and I usually use a lawn mower filter. I change them once a year. Might use the colored metal filters I’ve seen in Mid America’s parts catalogue.

should the gas in the filter remain at the same level. When i start it its full drive down the road five miles its half full come home park it it fills up

Thanks gang!
It was under the seat, on the tunnel. No troubles registering at all. I think having the previous title (Make: London, Model: Roadster, Year 1985) helped, as-well-as me never saying the word “kit”.The weather has been great, and I just turned my 200th mile (in 2 days)…..THIS THING IS AWESOME!!! -
