Chirco used to sell a dune buggy harness. Might stillOr maybe painless wiring? My check of these hot-rod looms last year revealed some nice, expensive products, but nothing to drop in direct. I ended up buying a few rolls of wire, some connectors, and getting ‘er done with the wires that were already in her. Worked (mostly) but I’ll be chasing…[Read more]

Mark, I think that it is easier to make one. Buy a lot of different colors of wire (14 gauge is good enough for most anything except the main feed, the ground, the horn, headlights and a cigarette lighter)(but bigger is always better here). Oil pressure, temp, generator warning 14 is plenty. 12 gauge for the taillights and stoplights is mor…[Read more]

There’s an online Lafer parts supplier in Brazil. You’ll have to run the words through Google Translate (unless you read Brazilian Portuguese) and convert the price into US dollars. A quick look turned up this:

I have noticed the same cars comming up on craigs(wisconsin)and on the bay at yes higher prices, than the previous 6 months it was up.However you have to keep in mind its a tough economy for most and may have fallen deeper in debt,so therfore the higher price.Doesn’t meen its value went up.

“green shoots,” as they say in the economics department. That said, I haven’t noticed any increase other than the bump you see every spring. Here’s one doing pretty well, IMHO, on ebay. $5,000 with a few hours left.

Seems to be not only our TDs but prices across the board have risen. Used to be a VW Thing in average condition went for 1500 to 3000. Now they start pretty much around 4500. Other cars on Craigs and the samba seem to be doing that as well.

Happy Easter from middle Georgia. Hope everyone keeps in mind the reason for Easter. Also remember to bite the ears off the Easter Bunny first!

I did the stations with the dog this morning.Well, not exactly the stations of the cross, but a pretty long walk nonetheless. At 6:30 or so he (the dog) was risen, and would be neither mocked nor denied (I tried both). While out and about we did see the Easter Bunny, and Fritz gave chase. Bunny won, as always.Happy Easter, everyone!

Yeah, more than I paid for Bridget too, but it is a hell of a kit.

Mike, that looks great. Good job. FYI, I was definitely not the first to go with the 3487 exhaust on this site. I learned of it here. And mine is a bit proud of the bumper too; just took a little punishment from a very high curbstone. It’s also scraped on the way out the driveway more than once. Scraped up a bit but no flaking so far. If I were you…[Read more]

Gee he got more for his unbuilt kit than I paid for a running car. Still looked like a good deal. All I need is another project.

Oh, by the way, Roy. I did not join the MG Experience club just to respond to that post. joined a few months ago to watch and learn. I’m not there much, but when I saw that post yesterday I just had to chime in.Then I thought I had to share it with you guys.

Ohh, Buzz is onto something. I think if I was you I’d be looking at the v6. Shorter, so less weight up front, and still plenty of grunt. If you have a 4.3 handy there’s probably no need to go source a 60-degree version. That said, I ran my 3.1 for 150,000 + miles with no issues except the coil pack and alternator (they eat alternators–but that…[Read more]

For parts availability old iron Chevy stuff is right up there with VW, and the HP-per-$ ratio can’t be beat. If you’re even a little patient at the junk yard or swap meet you can make 400 reliable horses for $1,000. Irrelevant to VW-based TD work though, unless you want a real project. That said, the new GM crate engines–LS3 and such–are a…[Read more]

Sorry Scott, I was thinking of the MGA/MGB Bob that Ed responded to. If I were to do a swap of the sort you are contemplating I would first look at weight and dimensions not hp. Most any of those engines you mentioned will make your “new TD” run like a scared rabbit if it’ll steer and handle nicely.
