I’ve got a pic of my old wiper motor hanging with the wires attached. Will post later.Mine, too, was held in by the wiper arm studs and nothing else. Use a little allen wrench to remove two (2!) allen screws holding each knurled knobby thing that sticks out through the cowl, then the motor should just fall out.

Aw Tom, you had to provide a serious answer?
I was gonna tell Gary that, hopefully, the gas tank is with and IN his car!I will second the caution over filling the tank. My Duchess’ filler pipe runs up through the grill to the “radiator cap” also. I fill the tank slowly, and by ear. You can hear when the tank gets full and the filler pipe is… -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Gas line routing? in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 6 months ago
My gas line follows the stock VW routing from tank to engine.
I’m not judging that it is better or safer than anyother approach. I’ll only observe that it worked successfully for millions of Beetles over decades of use. -

The gas tank is built in under the deck in the front compartment. Filler neck is the radiator cap. Be careful when filling as auto shut off doesn’t always work and you’ll spill gas all over your grill and front end if you’re not careful.
Post some pics when you get the car. There is one other on this site besides me with Allison’s.

Yes, I do remember these. As a kid I really enjoyed the Burma Shave signs.
From Paul,s recent survey, the average age of responding members is about 60. So I guess that most of us will “remember these.” -

Hi Donna,
There are nuts on the outside of the cowl, under each wiper arm. On my Duchess there are no other brackets holding the wiper motor and assembly to the cowl.Wiring instructions are on pages 49-50 of the Classic Roadsters assemply manual, page 5 & 6 of this PD… -

Nothing for the foreseeable. I put some red duct tape over the holes to keep the water out. Will probably put some kind of round button plugs in before Carlisle.
Eventually I’ll cut the humps off and fill it from underneath with fiberglass. But not until I need a bunch of body work and paint.BTW, got it back together, replaced the blown fuse, and…[Read more]

So: Liquid Wrench= +1 for getting old masking tape to let go. But Goof Off= +10. Keep it away from your paint though.

John,
Just a thought. Check the right engine case half along the top splitline. If it’s a pancake/suitcase engine (squareback, notchback, fastback) Type 3 I believe, the number may be stamped there. I had one come out of a beetle like that where the PO had swapped the engine with what was available to him at the time. -
