Four inches to the wheel spokes. Looks right, I think.
here’s a comparison shot:
Worth noting that TD’s had adjustable steering columns. The wheel could be set in or out about 2 inches. No tilt, unfortunately.

Def. project before the spring driving season really begins. I’m thinking I’ll re-do/add some grounding straps, add a relay system and then, if they’re still looking like a child’s flashlight that’s been left on all night, go with new halogens.Up ’till now I’ve not spent much time in her after dark, but I really think it’s necessary, since one…[Read more]

I ran into the same thing with mine last year. Most new shops need the computer specks, gee these cars are not in the computer. I found one older guy still working at a tire store did it no problem.

Those extra added-on external oil coolers don’t really accomplish anything, unless you have a fan blowing a significant amount of air over them. If it’s just sitting somewhere under a fender or in the engine compartment it probably won’t do anything other than slightly increasing your oil capacity. The VW mechanic who rebuilt my engine removed the…[Read more]

Hi Rocky,Although my car is a Lafer it seems that my tank is similar to the one described by Paul. It is aprox. 11″ tall and the filler sits inside the front trunk. I made a strap for it but ended up running the single strap from front to back instead of side to side as described by Paul.I spray painted the tank and then added several layers of… -

Ed, I’ve been wondering if it’s the headlights or my aging eyes. No matter, I need more lumens also. How ’bout figger’in it out and letting me know what you did? I’m pretty wrapped up in getting my engine back together now.

Yeah, an old timer or an old alignment shop (even better if they’re the same) are the only ones that don’t even bat an eye when I bring in my old cars for alignment.

I found a shop open weekends that will work on my chevette front end. It’s still hard for me to capitalize chevette. Hmmm, what was the builder thinking? Chevy 283 bored out, Turbo 400 transmission, Nissan 260Z rear end, and chevette front end???????

This makes me nostalgic for my first car, a 1967 Bug. But I was young and sold it, thinking I was moving up to a four door Datsun, after having the motor rebuilt and body repaired after it was hit by a Land Cruiser on a rainy dark night. What a mistake that was to let it go. Had company sedans for 15 years (boring) and then minivans and Ford Ta…[Read more]

I’m adding a second oil cooling unit, so with that, the dog house, added tin and virtually a brand new motor, I hope she runs problem free for a long time.

Cool options Ray10 but I like my steering wheel (however those are pretty tempting). I’m thinking my steering column may need to be shortened. I’ll just have to wait and see once I get the seats in.

The cooling shroud on the car when I bought it was a cheap, no frills version that we don’t think did a good job of distrbuting air. I bought the dog house because it has the internal fins (blades?) to direct air better. I’ll ask about the fan for it tonight when I go home.
I’m having an additional oil cooler installed to aid in handing our in… - Load More
