Nice set of gauges.
Have they ever been used? A couple of them appear to have some corrosion or maybe (hopefully) just a bit of dirt on the bezels.
What is the ohm range on the fuel gauge?
Is the Speedometer mechanical or electric?
The writing on the cardboard says the large gauges are 3 3/8th and the small are 2 1/8. That correct? -

For PC users, Microsoft provides all you need to compress pictures.
In Microsoft Office Picture Manager:
Select Compress Picture from the options in the right hand sidebar.
Select “Documents” and click OK
Save to a new file so you don’t lose your original. -

How thick is that tape and how much soundproofing do you expect? If it works that would be relatively easy to apply to the inside of the rear deck and engine compartment to try and eliminate some noise with the top up.

newkitman replied to the topic "MG" horn ? in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 5 months ago
The wire down the center of the shaft IS for the horn and believe it or not its the ground wire. (In VWs BROWN is ground.) It grounds through the steering shaft. Way down on your steering box is the flexible “rag” joint. You have to add a second. Both those joints MUST have a jumper from one side of the joint to the other for the traditional VW…[Read more]

I sent Ed one sample shot. It was too big for this forum, but I’d like to post some photos on here that are better quality than what my 2 meg old cell phone did.The one I sent Ed was 7,200 K and the largest I can get on here is 500K, is that right?

Mark, I also had some trouble re-sizing. In his post on the 19th of Oct, Ed invited us to send big photos directly to his personal email. Send him a PM and he will provide his personal email address. That is what I did. Worked great, – problem solved.

Can anyone tell me how to resize a photo to be able to load it on here? Do I need to buy Photoshop or some other program to modify the original image?

The big brake option is a nice upgrade, but has anyone checked the master cylinder push rod.? Is the push rod installed so that you would have full travel? Is there a pedal stop on the brake pedal that restricts full movement? Most master cylinders use the same 2-bolt mounting pattern and are easily interchanged, the big difference is with the…[Read more]

newkitman replied to the topic Lafer rear wheel cylinders in the forum MP Lafer 13 years, 5 months ago
Not a Lafer owner, mine’s a Fiberfab kit, but am the owner of a 74 Ghia. For the brake calipers the biggest thing is whether you have the two pin or one pin caliper. Can’t be switching. As to what year your Lafer uses I’d say from 70 to 74.

I should also add that on the wheel cylinders that I am looking to replace that the brake bleeder screws are on top of the brake line threaded input. The machined area where the bleeder screw is is stepped down a bit from the other surface. -

I plan to support local shops and not go back to a chain like Just Brakes. Looking back, my attitude was “they must know brakes”. But afterwards, “they don’t or can’t do custom work” and now I know my car doesn’t belong in their shop.I am a little thrown by the quote of $1,200 for larger calipers. It wasn’t that much more for a total rebuild (a…[Read more]

I know what you mean about head scratching. If you’ve ever built something, anything, you’ve done your share. I’ve scratched my head so much over the years that I hardly have any hair left in that spot.

The brake booster is generally a large round can that sits between the firewall and the master cylinder. There is a hose going to the engine since it uses engine vacuum to multiply the pedal force and assist in stopping. You might likely get the same stopping power if you could push hard enough on your brakes without a booster. It sounds lik…[Read more]

OK, I can see where my communication may cause some confusion. when the car was at Just Brakes, I was told that they could not replace my master cylinder. They are also prohibited by their coporate overseers from modifying the system, which is what they would consider, if they relocated the master cylinder to make room for the booster (which I a…[Read more]

On your post of 9 Nov, you said that “the one that they had for me would not fit in the space available”. Doesn’t sound like they had the right master cylinder. Sounds like you have replaced everything else in the braking system. Yes??? I would either get a new replacement or rebuilt master cylinder or rebuild the one that is in the car. …[Read more]

the hot rod shop I took it too this past Saturday wants about $1,200. or a little more to put in larger rotors and 11 inch calipers, which he said would make a lot of difference.
If I am to add a power booster, the master cylinder would have to be relocated. I’m probably looking at a different brake pedal lever, too. This will be another $2…[Read more] - Load More
