Thanks Paul. I was just wondering. I know the tank in the MG sits back further than the stock location in a beetle and wondered if a new line was run up out of the tunnel or there was a flex like running from the tank to the original fuel line in the tunnel up front.

Always amazes me why someone would put all that detail work into the outside and interior and do nothing to the engine. I’ll bet he’d get 11k if he cleaned and detailed that engine to look like the rest of the car.

A steel fuel line that runs through the center tunnel.
At the front, It emerges from the top of the tunnel, underneath where the fuel tank would have been in the stock Beetle.
Flexible fuel hose connects the line to the tank at the front and to the fuel pump on the VW engine.

And there is damage to the National Cathedral.
And this wasn’t a very dramatic post, nor did it have ANYTHING to do with our cars. But it is memorable for me…as it’s post number 1,500!Maybe I’ll stop now.

Once I get my car back, I’m putting one of these in the dash. She already has am/fm/cassette, top-of-the line in 1982! LOL.
I have two six…[Read more] -

I wouldn’t spend a fortune for a radio, you can hardly hear it anyway unless you’re blasting up the volume. And it’s not very secure against some idiot stealing it out of the dash. My car came with the usual sized rectangular hole in the dash and I got a digital radio with 18 FM and 12 AM radio presets and CD player and USB charging port for $49…[Read more]

Thanks.
It does mean a lot. I’ve got a great support circle, in person, and on-line. The process still stinks tho.
But someday it will be done and we can both move on. -

Interesting read MGLR. Thanks!
Most Easterners are oblivious to this stuff!
Of the few true fault lines that does exist in the northeast, one of the major ones is called the 125th Street Fault.
Why?
Because it runs roughly east-west, underneath 125th street in Manhattan. If that one ever goes, New York City is in deep trouble. -

Nice to see Bob’s Classics is still pricing their cars “reasonably”. $11,900? Rally?
I visited Bob’s Classics showroom on a family vacation to Florida. He (yes, there really is a “Bob”) had some great cars. And all in great shape.
But he prices them, shall we say, rather enthusiastically?
I hope he gets his $11,900 for that TD! -

I’m on board with you doing the bulk of the work your self Shane.
I built my Duchess in 1982. I was 24. I had some hand tools and could “spin a wrench” and do a tune up & oil change. But that was about it.
The majority of my car building knowledge was based firmly in plastic, 1/24th and 1/25th scale!
Long story short, I disassembled the Beetle,…[Read more] -

Ed – I’ll tell you what will stop you. WE WILL! We won’t let you destroy all those lovely TD replicas.
Then there’s a little thing called insurance fraud. That’s a felony! -

Re insurance: when I called Hagerty (I think it was–could’ve been another company) they told me they wouldn’t put insurance on the car unless I told them the value was at least $10,000. I said I’d just got the car for $3,500 and, even assuming I’m a crackin’ negotiator & a truly savvy buyer, $5,000 would still be pushing it. The agent was pretty…[Read more]

For $211 I would expect 5 point racing harnesses not lap belts. Radios you buy from Crutchfield. You are capable of doing everything you described. You aren’t restoring a car. You are finishing a car. There are threads on this forum for carpet, seats . . . if what you want to do isn’t here, ask. Someone will tell you how they did it on their ca…[Read more]

That $4,000 one with the new engine could be a deal, depending on who made the motor & how honest the seller is.

On car stuff I find that I work at about one third the speed of a pro, and have to re-do it about half the time. I happen to be more profligate with my time than with my money, of which I don’t have much. I also like the “learning experience.” The second time I do the job it goes much faster.

I definitely know the expertise, knowledge, and help is here. The
members on this forum are incredibly helpful, and most of you seem to
be very “hands-on” type folks. This 4K estimate may push me toward being more hands-on. The more I
think about, read, and re-read this estimate, for seemingly pretty minor
stuff, I may be inspired to try and do…[Read more] -

Yes, it took me a while to figure out the trick to making live links. You certainly gave me plenty of help. I look for current prices to stay on top of the market. I’m still bummed that my insurance agent wouldn’t go above $5,000 replacement value, but if there are decent ones coming in for less, I’m OK with my $100/yr premium. I’m in n…[Read more]
