I second what BDriver said. There is something special about these cars. The people who still remember the days gone by when they courted in ”a car like that”,as well as the people who realize that cars wern’t always built with the creature comforts that most people now consider necessities., they all are reminded of happier times when they s…[Read more]

Paul, my State Farm policy declaration page has the words ” Vehicle value ” and then $18,500. There is no ACV any place in the policy or dec. page. I’ll check with my agent and make sure of what it actually means.
I was at the British days car show Saturday, Farmers insurance was set up there in a booth trying too sell collector car ins…[Read more] -

Your London Roadster is show quality.
Cars in the Survivor class are prized as rolling examples of how a marque was originally assembled. Yours is even unrestored. What a find!
Besides, who expects what looks like a 60 year old car to be pristine.
You win just by being at a show. There will be more people looking at your TD replica than a…[Read more] -

Interesting, I have spoken to Hagerty, AmericanCollectors (classicins), and Classic Auto Ins., and none of them will insure a car in Florida unless it is kept in a locked 4 wall garage or storage facility. Anpac doesn’t insure any of these in Florida, ie, is “not available”. My house is up on pilings as per the building code where I live, and…[Read more]

UPDATE:I just spoke with the Phoenix, AZ owner of the VW based TD replica on Craigslist. He needs to sell as soon as possible. The couple just downsized to a two-car garage in a townhouse and doesn’t have room for this one. He’s also lowered the price, hoping to spark a quicker sale, it is now at $4,300 and could be negotiable. He is mo…[Read more]

I wish my London Roadster was show quality. I feel there is still too much rust on places that are hard for me to get to, and cracks in the fiberglass that I would love to get repaired. And I’m still looking to get a showroom finish shine on her, too.

No worries Bill. I know it was done with good intention.
But we really do try to stay on top of this stuff.
If only all those spam “promises” were as real as the clutter in the in-box! -

Paul — I recall clicking the !Report button and dashing off a note about some spam awhile back. If that made me one of the “three kind-hearted souls,” I’m sorry.

Hi folks,
I haven’t really been keeping track. But it seems that most of the spam is posted to the “Other Stuff For Sale” forum. All of this morning’s spam was in that forum.
I have now idea HOW automated spam software works. But I do know they register user id’s automatically and then look to post their ads. It is possible they use key word s…[Read more] -

Try airhead parts for the calipers. The calipers on my 74 Ghia are the same (2 pin – 55mm pads). I got mine from them when they were just Karmann Ghia Parts and Restorations. Good, high qualiter parts.

So far I have found out that there are only 2 different ATE caliper’s that VW used that are 2 pin. One takes a 60mm pad the other takes a 55mm pad. (width) I take the 55mm. Getting close now.

The article and video in Florida and recent local shows are examples of free PR that exposes the car culture to an affordable collector car. Each of us should try to show our cars when we can. It’s not about the trophies, although a judge in a regular driver class just might be weary of 60s Chevys and give a TD replica exclusivity points. We will…[Read more]

Glad you got her straightened out. Lots of good info on the Samba if your TD is VW based. If the folks here can’t answer your VW questions (mostly we can) then the Sambanistas can.
