Thats a great looking car!! I agree with Paul, it’s a Classic Roadster Duchess and I see the firewall tag too. I’d like to see some pictures showing the entire car in one shot.
When you get the bugs out and the weather cools off you will enjoy it even more. Bet you’ll remember that ”first real ride” for a long time. -

That’s quite a story and I’m sure you’ll remember that for a long time. Where you ever able to get it out of first gear?

Larry, are you adding two more lights to the rear end or replacing bulbs in the existing lenses? I’d like to see a photo of the installation or maybe a sketch of your idea. My brake lights are the small VW ones and I wish for a center light or something more.

Hi.
I posted this on thepicture thread. Then saw your quesion here.
I am certain you are driving a Classic Roadsters Ltd, Duchess. YOur car doesn’t just have the look of a Duchess. Every detail I can see in these detail pictures matches up with my Duchess.
I’d bet my car (almost) that American Custom was a builder for Classic Roadsters and mad…[Read more] -

Nice!
Despite the American Custom Cars id tag, I am certain you are driving a Classic Roadsters Ltd, Duchess. Everything I can see in these detail pictures matches up with my Duchess.

Very cool!
And I’m impressed with all the sponsor dollars you’ve collected!
Are you driving?
I’d love to spend a weekend at a track with you. But we’re heading into high school marching band season and my daughter the drum major wouldn’t appreciate my absence.PMOSSBERG40760.6761226852 -

Don’t feel bad…I did the same thing and bought 4 of those “1157” LED bulbs. Still have them in a cabinet drawer…in the dark

Paul…as usual, you are the MAN!!!
I had Grundy for years and they sell only Agreed Value policies. The rep at Grundy told me that Stated Value in most cases is an “ACV” policy.
You are indeed correct that the “daily driver” companies do not offer Agreed Value policies and the bulk of them are “ACV” coverage.
I now use http://www.classicins.com for my…[Read more] -

I wrote this in response to another thread. But I liked my own writing so much I am adding it to this Classic Car Insurance thread.

To really understand what you are buying, you need to understand the difference between the value used to determine the price of your insurance and the actual coverage set forth in the policy.
Regardless of the terms used by the insurer?you MUST read the actual policy itself to determine how the company will settle a loss if your car…[Read more] -

Bill, I am in NJ and my buddy moved to DE a few months ago. I am not near the car any longer.
I’ll see if he can get me some pics.
However, I can tell you that the single port VW mill had all ALL the stock tin, to include the tin that sits vertical over the “bell housing” area of the engine block.
This tin and the cylinder covers were flush up…[Read more] -

You want Agreed Value, a not Stated Value collector/specialty car insurance. Agreed Value reimburses total loss for the value the car is insured for.
IMHO, NEVER use a “daily driver” company to insure these cars. -

Paul, you used the LED bulbs that just screw into the 1156 or 1157 sockets correct? They are indeed junk and not designed to shine through red or amber lenses like a clear 1157. They are also extremely “directional” and have a built in resistor that creates amp draw for the stock flashers.
Larry and I are talking about complete LED assemblies and…[Read more] -

I changed my brake and turn signal lights to LED’s and the flasher worked the same as with the original bulbs 1156 and 1157. I saw now difference. I thought the LED’s would be brighter for the turn signals. I ended up spending almost a $100 on the LED turn signal bulbs and ended up putting the 1157’s back in because they were brighter. Live and learn.

Happy to be of service, Paul, no matter how inadvertent it was.I don’t think the shop that installed my new 1600cc Type 1 motor knew about sealing around the engine compartment. I don’t take it there any more, having found a much more knowledgeable guy within walking distance of my house. Now that I think about it, he may have mentioned that very…[Read more]

Bill,
I wonder why your agent couldn’t insure yours. I wonder if there is different state regulations within State Farm. My agent even came out took pictures of the car for their files. I took it back up last month so he could document the engine with pictures. -
