Hello Mike, and welcome to the club. Do you have any idea of what is wrong with the engine or other parts? Do you have a copy of the John Muir book? VWs should last almost forever if you can keep them alive and that’s this book is designed to do, written for the non-technical reader, it is essential for all VW owners. I believe he even tel…[Read more]

No, They put the wrong size tires on the car, they were almost 3 inches too tall. They did some damage to the body. They finally got the right tires, but I had a manager tell me that if he had known it was a kit car body he would have told me to find another Pep Boys.
Now we are starting the fight over the body. I highly recommend that you use a…[Read more]

Don’t let Peter scare you off Bob.
Learn to adjust your VW’s valves and change the oil every 3,000 miles (or every six months or so if you don’t rack up the miles). And buy this How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive 19 Ed: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat IdiotAnd ask us all the questions you want!By your description, it sounds…[Read more]

Post photos, J byrd. I had my pedal assembly out of Bridget over the winter. bit of a PIA to remove and replace, but not nearly as bad as, say, rear torsion bar reindexing. Everything can be done by you with hand tools, most likely.

Bob,
VWs are simple cars, but they have a high tinker factor. There is always something that needs tweaking. It will be expensive to pay a mechanic every time the noises change.
It is cheaper and more fulfilling to maintain it yourself. Find a VW owner’s club and buy a copy of “Volkswagen for the Compleat Idiot” by John Muir from Amazon.
Besides,…[Read more] -

Thank you all for the welcome
The car was built in Texas. Motor is in the rear and looks like a Duchess. But I do not remember it saying that on the plaque mounted under the hood. It has the bump at the fender not smooh like the Fiber.
I am in Atlanta. Hard to find someone to work on it.
I found one place that I am using and it came highl…[Read more] -

Mark,
It has to be. It’s nothing we admins can control.
But, unless we have someone here that can rebuild the site, we might lose a lot of the pages, like the history, the manuals, the photo galleries.
And I have no idea how much web hosting fees would be elsewhere. -

Keep in mind that you CANNOT use a regular flasher with LED lights. They don’t draw enough current to make the conventional flashers work.
You need to buy an electronic flasher, some of which actually have a ground wire pigtail attached. http://www.rodworx.com

Paul, is it the site’s software or the server we use that lets the SPAM get through? If we got an new server provider would we be able to avoid this PITA???

When the brake and clutch pedal are not pressed in they should both be almost vertical and line up with each other. Not sure what your setup is. The pedal stop should be a nice bracket looking device that has an elongated hole to allow adjusting the pedal stop. Can’t remember if the pedal stop affects the clutch pedal.

jhbyrd,The brake pedal spring has a hook on one end and a straight end on the other. The hooked end goes over the brake pedal post like you stated. The other end either sits against the floor pan or like mine fits underneath the pedal assembly and the floor pan.

I used the Moss Motors one for the TD. Bolts in at the bumper brackets and includes built-in foglight mounts.Might be a little more $$ than boat stuff, but not much, no cutting or measuring or drilling, and very durable so far.
