I made mine from some Plexiglas from Lowes. You can cut it with a Jig-Saw. Then sand the edges, and they will look great, and it is cheap. Cut them out with a fine tooth scroller blade, but not super fine as it will get hot and weld itself back together as you cut. Learned that the hard way. It takes an afternoon, but saves a bundle.

I’ll be back in Phoenix by the middle or end of next week, I hope. If it’s still available, I’ll be happy to look at it for someone. I’ve dreamed about a red MG with a white top for a long time, but ended up with a cream colored MG Replica with a brown top. Color wasn’t primary after all, but having an engine that I feel comfortable with was.

Maybe an old Z car rear setup would work. Suspect it’d be about the right width.

I’m just catching up with this thread. I have a fuel filter in the engine compartment, and we added a second one (to be first in line) as the fuel line comes out of the fuel tank up front. I will certainly look into this information when I get back to town.

My fiberfab has flat rods that extend the original controls farther back – can’t
you just use a different hole in the rod or make a new one to push the clutch
back a bit and leave the other two where they are? -

A friend of mine once sold an MGB because it was a lemon.
She had replaced the tires, hoses, belts, battery, shock absorbers and muffler. She got rid of it before anything else broke.
True story.
Everything she replaced was a wear item. They need to be replaced periodically. That happens on any car. Don’t be afraid of a TD replica because it ne…[Read more] -

But once they are done all you do is drive and keep them clean.
Oh, I forgot, the’re never quite done, always something else we want to do, change or improve.

I’m told that British cars require one hour of maintenance for every hour on the road.
Oh, wait. We’re talking about VW based TD’s. They are German. Make that 2 hours of maintenance.

under the pedal assembly is a small piece of metal bolted to the floor that keeps the pedals from falling rearward too much. on the stock vw i believe it was welded to the floorpan.perhaps you could elongate the holes for some adjustment or whack it with a hammer and steel rod.HOWEVER, dont let the clutch pedal fall or it will come loose in the…[Read more]

Don’t listen to them, Gulzar. I bought mine a year and a half ago and hardly touched it since, except to drive.Well, I also changed the oil a couple times. And I did the brake shoes. And new brake cylinders. And I adjusted the brake plunger. And I redid the front axle beam and installed new tie rod ends. Then there was the exhaust adventure,…[Read more]

The pedals in these cars are moved back quite a bit over the factory Beetle location. Looks like the builder of yours was comfortable with then where he put them.
You can remove the carpet from the tunnel on the passenger side opposite the pedals and see if the builder cut an access hole for the two bolts and nuts that should now hold the VW…[Read more] -

Hi…unfortunately, even the most pristine of these cars need “tinkering”. For the most part, they are home built kits and you are at the mercy of whomever built the car, how accomplished they were as a builder and how much $$ they spent on new or almost new parts.
These are not like buying a factory built car like a Miata, Honda S-2000, etc.…[Read more] - Load More
