Thanks to all whom I talked with and visited (only Montie). Several folk were willing, but timing was just off a bit for us. Maybe next time, as many were willing to show me their projects.I made it home tonight after an 8,000+ mile, five-week long trip from Phoenix to Chicago, Detroit, New York City, then west to Columbus, OH, Decatur, IL, O…[Read more]

Wow.Good to hear from you again, G. We got a new member who’s fooling with a Buick 215 conversion in one of these, I think you two should talk. Look around the thread called “Another Project Reported.”

Back in the world again. I did get the contract to build a 1/4 scale flight simulator of the F-117 stealth fighter.
The F-117 under construction with the poor neglected TD in the background.
That would be Lt. Uhura in front for the roll out. -

I just used the s-10 engine & tranny. I did use the S-10 front brake calpers & plumbing with custom disks to keep the 4 on 100 bolt pattern.

Great story! Beautiful car too!!
What wheels do you have? My original baskets are showing their age and when I replace them I’m definately going with a true wire type (either bolt on or knock offs) also tring to decide whether to go with reverse off set like what is on it now or standard off set to put the wheels back inside the wheel wells.…[Read more] -

Thanks for the info guys. Paul, did you use a rattle can type of undercoat or did you use a spray gun and paint booth to apply the undercoat?
I looked at the photo of your Duchess and saw that the underside of the front and rear fenders are black but wasn’t sure if it was painted black or the dark was a shadow. Thanks for the input. You can…[Read more] -

Allen, On the original MG, the underside of the fenders is the same color as the top side of the fender. Most replicas are black under the fenders. Some builders use some type of undercoating.Paul used a black paint, not flat, not glossy, but he said that it made the VW chassis parts seem to disappear. Perhaps he will reply and share this with us…[Read more]

I used black undercoating on the bottom side of the fenders, to give a small layer of protection against chipping from debris thrown up by the tires. Classic Roadsters recommended this.
On any body panels under the fender line that should not be body color, I used matte black grill paint. For example, VW based TD replicas have flat areas that…[Read more] -

Free PR is the best kind.
Newspaper editors are always looking for unusual stories. Local papers in particular have less to chose from than do the national publications.
You might put your TD in the Sunday paper if you called the automotive editor and told him/her about your car. I put my Avanti on Car & Driver Television back in the day by se…[Read more] -

Cool article Mel. makes me want to get my TD built but I have to remind myself to take my time and do it right. I want mine to come out looking as good as Mrs. Peel!
Hope you’re going to be at the Pasco County Bug Jam in November? I ALWAYS go to that one. Even from up here in middle GA. If you do then I can get an up close and personal look at…[Read more] -

I’d rotate the steering box just a bit. It’s only one bolt. If the line was straight before, it’s not now, and you’ll rip your coupler. It’ll take some time, but it will happen.

Well the column has been moved up 4 inches. Pretty much followed the plan above but these was not need to cut the firewall as the BCW had sufficient space nor did I have to rotate the Steering box as the small diff was taken up by the coupler. Yes a new coupler is soon to be installed. Next I might still lower the seat for headroom but that can…[Read more]
