I’ve seen adapters used on VW wheels to fit Chevy or Ford rims but don’t know if the others have done that to fit VW rims.

This is somewhat off the subject here, but does anyone know how BCW adapted what appear to be VW wheels to their Chevette based cars?Chevette lugs are on 100mm center and VW on 140mm so it would seem they had to replace the center of the VW wheel [only the area behind the hubcap] or change the stud placement in the drums and rotors. This has…[Read more]

Those wheels on the rear in the picture appear to be Mexican Beetle rims. The fronts are not not the same wheels.
You can use the stock slotted VW wheels and get flat hub caps that fit them. Check out Paul Mossberg’s. -

What I’m hoping to find is a good VW rim and hub cap combination that closely resembles a TD wheel and hub cap. They sell VW rims with round holes but they are 14 inch rims and I’m not certain they would accept a hubcap. I’ll keep looking I guess. But the bug in VA is promising. Not sure if I want to make a 12 hr trip one way though. I’ll keep…[Read more]

Montie…the grille shell on that Ford based car is probably worth the starting bid! Wish it was on the “right” coast.

For reference: 4 lug VW rims are 4x130mm bolt pattern and use a 14mm lug bolt. The 5 lug are 5x205mm and use a 12mm lug bolt.
I recently had some 4 lug VW “Marathon” wheels (a.k.a. Baja Bug) widened to 8.5″ (stock backspace) and had them powder coated bright red. They are going on the rear of a Volksrod I am building.
When I needed center caps, I…[Read more] -

As for lugs or ears for a half moon (or stock TD) cap, looks to me like that would be a custom job, maybe manageable with some very careful measurements and sheet metal screws. But looks like it’d be tricky for a home mechanic to get that stuff centered just right. Then again, if the hump on the rim was just the right size, one might be able to fit…[Read more]

I suspect it was to give the bus lower gears.

Yup, the bus wheels have round holes.

And I never have understood why the bus has 14″ wheels and the beetle has 15s. -
newkitman replied to the topic VW RIM Question in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 5 months ago
I like the looks of these as they are a bit closer to original MGTD wheels. I saw some bus wheels on the samba for sale that had round holes but they were all 14 inch rims and we use 15 inch rims. My 74 74 Ghia didn’t have those rims and I changed to the 8-spoke rims when I did the rebuild.

Just adding a little to what Ed wrote….
The rim on the rear is a stock steel wheel used on 68-79 Beetles and 67-74 Ghia.
It’s a 15 inch wheel, four bolt, with 4 1/4 ” backspace.
It does NOT have the lugs or “ears” for a hubcap.

Those’d fit four-lug Beetles, ’68 through 79, Karman Ghias of the same vintage, etc. New ones like it are $50 each at CIP1. Not sure what, if any, hubcaps fit though. Cip1 suggests a center cap of some kind that covers the grease cap but not the wheel bolts.I think they’d be very cool if you could get a dog dish or half moon cap on ’em.

If anyone is interested in the car in The Villages I would be happy to check it out for you. The owner and I belong to the same Car Club and we have mutual friends.
Any comments I feedback will be totally impartial but I might be able to provide some insights into the sellers motivation.

Ed’s approach will work if you want to crop the picture. But it you don’t need to crop it, you want to “compress” the file. This is my preferred approach. My example uses Microsoft Office Picture ManagerClick EditClick Compress PicturesSelect Documents and click ok. This compresses the image to a size that is quite usable to email or to post here

Dale: You
should be able to make your photo smaller by opening the picture in your photo
program and resaving it smaller, either by choosing a lower quality
jpeg format, resizing it by pixels (I like 300 by 400) or cropping it
and saving the cropped part under a new name. -

I measured from the base of the seat cushion frame on my 74 Ghia (don’t know if the bug seats are that much different) and the height with the sisal pad, foam and upholstery is 7 inches at the front. Didn’t measure the rear of the seat cushion. If someone will measure the height of their TD cushion from the wood to the top at the front and back…[Read more]
