Thanks, Paul. I’m waiting until the 17th to book. There seems to be some thought that the end-of-year discount could apply to the SOC rate.

Thanks for the tips guys. I learned to drive in a 1965 Beetle 35 years ago and later owned a 71 that was in the family for 20 years. I just haven’t had time to check out the Duchess yet. I live in KY and I left it at my condo in TN. I plan to go back and clean it up this week. I should be able to verify the heat issue then.

Allen is technically correct, but we can’t generalize that heat systems were left in place. Retention of the VW heat is up to the builder. If the builder wanted heat….The running board channels that bring heated air to the defroster disappear when the Beetle body is removed. The heat exchange boxes are retained on the exhaust systemThe lever and…[Read more]

Welcome to the club. Great win with the TD. Since it’s on a VW chassis, the heat system is left as is with no modification. It should work like a standard VW beetle system. Check to see if you have heater boxes and if they’re connected. Great folks here and lots of good knowledge so don’t worry about asking questions…ask away.

And, as everyone knows, Lucas stuff was original equipment in all MGs.

I went to the event in 2006 to get additional ideas for future modifications. As I approached Pennypacker Mansion event workers waved me into the show. I figured “what the hell”? and followed their lead. I registered, had the cars photo taken, and was ushered onto the display field and was parked in a line of factory TD’s. It took almost half an…[Read more]

Update: I am stupid. The new beam already has new bearings & etc. I hadn’t even took off the dust caps to look.Still need the shims though. If anyone wants a new set of urethane bushings I’ll sell them to you at cost. Otherwise, back they go.

Hanging Christmas decorations today. And cleaned out the gutters. Also bought a chipper/shredder for $100.In other words, waiting on parts. New bushings, and caster shims. Thanks for asking.

Okay so I guess I’m going to start from the inside out and build a motor. I know nothing of this but thought it was time to learn. It can’t be that much different than rebuilding an old Ford or chevy. It looks like you go to GEX or Mid america and get a Short Block and go from there. Any thoughts or suggestions.

Ed, That’s a great find. Seems like I remember a kit called the Corsair. Notice the grille emblem reads MC not MG.The body appears to be one piece ,Ican’t see any seams in the pics. The end view of the hood looks extra thick and with a flange molded near the edge for even more strength.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention. -
James Cochran replied to the topic Need new top…. in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 6 months ago
Mel,
I actually found a new top with side curtains on ebay for $200. It was still wrapped from the factory and still had the protective paper on the clear plastic parts. It was a fortunate find, but took 2 months of searching ebay for one to show up. It fit perfectly and can be seen in my photos section.

Many folks have gone to a boat shop and had tops made. Not sure of the cost of going that route. But it will give you many more options than MG Magic’s stock.

Is the car a manual or automatic?
You said, “I get a vibration in the drive train when starting out”. If that means when releasing the clutch, it could be clutch chatter from a few different causes.
Does it only happen as you “start out”?
Rotted mounts cannot help either. -
