Our cars tend to be a little bigger than the originals. Not saying I know it won’t fit, but for the money I’d buy a bolt of vinyl or canvas, a big zipper and some snaps from somewhere like this and make the thing myself. Or try to get my wife to do it.

Allen, Check the photo gallery. Look at c6810, suntansailor, and jeniken’s pictures to see different views, some with the driver’s side open and some fully covered.

VW have no head gaskets, so I doubt if you have a blown one.
Are those Dual Kadrons? If so, get rid of the steel intakes and invest in a set of aluminum one’s from EMPI or Bugpack. The SCAT linkage is way better too.
I had no problems with clearance on my 1776 in the VW based first Pink MG. The air cleaners were a little tight, but “clocked”…[Read more] -

Well I might get a chance to drop over to Carlisle and see what it looks like before going there in the spring. Not sure if I’ll have the TD finished by then but I’ll go anyway. It’ll be worth the trip.

That’s about 60+ miles east of Harrisburg, between Pottstown and Reading, PA.
Too bad it’s not Carlisle Kit Car Show time…that’s only about 18 miles west of Harrisburg. -

Thanks, guys. FYI, yeah, this is a ’69 Beetle beam, ball joints. I got those shims in my shopping cart at CIP1. The rust damage seems minor–just a sheet metal “skin” between the beefier parts. Might just epoxy those shims in there and call it good. Still pondering the bushing v. bearing question. Seems so easy to just buy that $30 urethane…[Read more]

Ed,
The procedure to replace the front beam is the same between Ghia and Bugs provided you’re using the same type beam (ball joint to ball joint; link pin to link pin.) I decided not to mess with replacing individual pieces of the front beam and ordered an adjustable beam from CIP1. They were very helpful and the beam assembly is bolt off/bolt on.…[Read more] -

Ed, I just rebuilt and installed a 69 ghia beam on my car. I replaced everything, yes everything with new stock parts. I used rubber not ureathane as I wanted the softest and quietest ride. I also removed all but the main four leaves in the upper and lower beam. I did not put an adjuster on either beam and was hoping for the best. I used the oil…[Read more]

Thanks, Richard.I got the sway bar off. Turns out the bushing holders for those are two-piece construction.
Problem now is, bushings or bearings? People say those urethane buggers squeak. The Speedster guys have an elaborate fix for that involving double-tapping the bushings for zirks; I’d rather just go with the OE stuff if possible. But is it…[Read more]

Not sure what your asking but if you remove the whole thing invest in a urethane bushing kit, check your spindles, front bearings. My good friend Glauten Klause says you can struggle to get this all back in and attach pieces as you go. But he prefers to rebuild the entire front end whilst he has it out. then invite a friend over for a green…[Read more]

Man after my own heart. Very hard to get just the right “patina” on stuff as you change it.

Thanks for the tips. I’ve been scouring the mentioned sites for quite a while and the one I’m looking for never seems to pop up. So I figured I’d give the forum a shot, you never know who may have swaped stuff out to match, unlike my dash with the mismatched stuff.
The tach in my dash came with the car. I’m trying to keep the build cost down so l…[Read more] -

Searching the samba classifieds there seem to be an assortment of gauges. I almost remember a couple CI instruments. Samba is good for an evening visit. Take your time sit back and enjoy.

egauges has those new. In my case though, I’m going with the VDO voltmeter in place of my non-working Amps (“Dynamo”) gauge from Classic Instruments. Easier hookup & arguably better functionality–though admittedly not as classic.BTW, Craigo, what are you running that needs a 10k tach?!

Thanks for the heads up on the Chicane Videos. Just makes you wish you’d been there. What’s really depressing was knowing that I lived about 15 miles from Beverly Airport (Ma) in the late fifties, and lived in the Los Angeles are in the mid 60s. Too busy thinking about going to the drag strip. hmm… Thanks again. Neil Flaherty - Load More
