Toma, how much did you pay for your wheel “blank?” I was thinking of doing the same, and wonder what’s fair for that kind of cut.

Yeah I knew that. Thought it was funny anyway.

British hell, Paul! They’re Pennsylvanians!
It does look pretty clean though. I’m just glad I didn’t have to put it together, as it looks like it would have been hard to get the alignment right with the rivets.Larry: Bridget’s hood (Bonnet?) is one piece. The central chrome strip is attached with pins or some sort, like a lot of automotive chrome…[Read more]

I checked it out in MAM’s on-line catalogue. Looks pretty good to me. Price is right too!Worst that can happen is you are not satisfied when you open the box and you have to return it.OK, I guess that’s not true. The WORST that can happen is you install it, it delaminates at speed, falls off in your lap and, well you get the picture. But you’ll…[Read more]

I solved this problem by making a zero dish wheel. It’s not that hard if you know CAD and know of a sheetmetal shop with a CNC laser, plasma, or waterjet cutter. Draw the design of your choice in CAD (must be good quality with all vectors attached).
A CNC shop can convert your drawing to G-code and cut out your shape. I used 1/8″ carbon stee…[Read more] -

Ah those superior British! Such an attitude 🙂
But this time they are right. It is a very elegant solution to hinging/latching the hood. Or should I say bonnet?

Ed, Is your hood molded in one piece or in two pieces which are joined together under the chrome strip? The Chevette based BCW uses a two piece hood that is hinged in the center, however the side panels are attached with bolts to the cowel, grille shell and fenders. Thanks for the info and pictures,I did not know that BCW used the VW hood l…[Read more]

Yes, the BCW manual brags about using the VW hood latch & denigrates other replicas based on this “superior” feature. They were quite catty about it, actually. I was under the impression, wrong I guess, that most of the replica mfgs hinged the hood on the driver’s side.At any rate, the hinge itself on the BCW is just an internal hinge, running…[Read more]

Actually, using the VW hood latch is unlike “most” TD replicas and for some reason, many of the instruction manuals told the builder to hinge the hood on the passenger side, opening it from the driver side.As far as VW based TD replicas go, the British Coach works is the only one I’m aware of that uses the VW hood latch. Most use two simple boat…[Read more]

Mrhydrant, the hood opens from the passenger side, like most of the replicars. It pops open using the original VW remote hood latch. The lower parts of the hood have original MG latches, but they’re for show only.

Ringo,Thanks for the quick response and the picture too.My BCW has the shock mounted to the rear side of the lower control arm with the top end connected to a bracket coming off the frame.CMC used a similar set up but the shock is on the front side of the suspension.Again may I say you have a great MG replica.

Now I’m still curious. If the Classic Roadster cars used Chevette rearends, did the also use Chevette front suspension also? Is this how they managed to keep the wheels under the fenders without making the fenders wider?. All the front engine CR cars that I remember seeing had wire wheels so that may be the answer, whereas CMC front engine cars…[Read more]

Ed, I the car. Just how does your hood open? I have been looking for a way to get my hood to open like the originals without to much fuss.

Asked and answered before I got back here.
But (and I’m working solely on memory here), yes, I recall all of the above was correct for Classic roadsters. Ford engine, Chevette rear. No idea why they went that way tho. -

Speed is all about the amount of hp that reaches the rubber. I was turning low 9’s with my hemi, but ate rubber like crazy. It always comes to hp to weight and delivering the hp to the road.I love my MG and the close ratio 4 speed makes it fun to drive.Greg

Ringo, Thanks for the reply. I thought I had read your post about the ClassicRoadster factory guy but could not find it again. I had seen a CR Chevette build on another site but did not know about the different combinations the factory made available. Guess I won’t be exactly leading the pack with my stock 1.6 Chevette! And here I thought I was speeding down the dangerous side of life with my ’67 Nova, with a measly 300hp in 2900 pounds. If the weather was just right, that car was good for mid 14s on the strip. And (even with sway bars and disk brakes) she sure felt dangerous above 110 on the highway, particularly in those curvy spots.
Greg’s car would run rings…[Read more]
