Hey GangSharp eyes! The
previous owner placed the reflective tape on the outside angle of the
slats. Looks good and really is a nice safety feature at
night. It does have some wear and I have replacement on my list
of things to do. Thanks for the comments!Ringo -

I’m sure there is more than just “some suspension work”. I’ll bet if you went to talk to the guy you’d see it’s been extremely modified. I’ve seen at least 10 of these cars over the years on Craig’s List, eBay, etc. They were primarily Drag Race oriented cars that give up ride and handling to go fast in a straight line.
To fit a V8 drivetrain, the…[Read more] -

Hi Pat,
I got them at a place called CIP (California Import Parts) if I recall correctly. I had no problems at all. They sure made life easier too.

Nice car!!! Welcome to the FORUM
Correct Rob, the Ford Mustang II, Ford Pinto and Mercury Bobcat, as well as some Merkur XR4Ti, all had the same basic platform (Unibody floor) and drivetrains.
The first Pinto’s were 1.6L OHV I4’s in 1970. In 1971-72, they upgraded to the 2.0L OHC, both European Ford in origin. In late 1973, the American made…[Read more] -

Geoff,
Ran across this on Craigs List http://prescott.craigslist.org/cto/964902173.html
Just in case you can’t connect to the add, it;s an MG Hot Rod in what looks like a FiberFab body/chassis. it has a 350CU IN/45 HP engine in it. Doesn’t look to be too heavily modified. Does sound like he did some suspension work. Coincidentally he’s in…[Read more] -

Ringo,
Awesome car! I also like the painted slats design. I’m curious, are they actually painted? It almost looks like some kind of applique because it looks like some of the Chrome is still showing on the slats. I think it really dresses up the look.
I’ll bet it turns some heads!

I have a Fiberfab with top and side curtains if you need any details just holler. I’m working on the mechanicals at the moment and actually haven’t put the top up yet.

Hi,
I’m up here in Dunstable, MA on the NH border. My dad-in-law lives in Wellfleet and that’s about a 125 mile trip. There are now at least three of us in MA (RobBaker is on the north shore up near Plum Island).
I have a FiberFab as well. Check out my photos. Mine has a Mustang V6. Can’t wait until spring!!
Let’s hear about progress you’ve made…[Read more] -

Great advice Ringo.
Adding a V8 is not just pop it in the car. These cars, especially the CMC front engine cars, do not have a frame designed to take the torque/hp of a V8.
Then there are fitment problems galore with the transmission, rear end and rear suspension change required to do this.
In the end, the car’s handling is terrible (nose heavy),…[Read more] -

The local West Marine has a great selection of weather-proof crimp connectors. They’re expensive, but worth it in the long run. You could probably find some in your area or “google search” for an online vendor.

I bought trailing arms that already had German ball joints installed. It was cheaper than buying the joint and paying the local shop to press them in. At the time, I didn’t have access to a decent press.
Don’t use Brazilian ball joints.
The disc brake conversion doesn’t affect the width (track) enough to worry, maybe 1/4″ or less. -

Hi Geoff
I don’t have any first hand info on V8 swaps in the TD replicas, but
I’ll throw in my two cents worth on engine swaps in general.
Measurement of physical sizes should be easy to obtain on the web. The
radiator size for a V8 isn’t the problem it used to be since you can
get very efficient 4 row and electric fans that can cool a V8.…[Read more] -

Glad to help Chuck.
Let us know if it works out. It’s a tight fit inside the turn signals, but a couple quick connects do fit in there. That will leave you with only the two wires coming through the fender and into the body. -
Rob Baker replied to the topic Look what I just bought in the forum TD Replicas 16 years, 3 months ago
Looks like a dupe of mine right down to the wheels. Mine is based on a 1974 Mustang 2.3 which is probably the same as the pinto drive train. I’m going thru it now fixing some oil leaks and this weekend a new flywheel, I hope. Should have it registered in the spring. Thinking of swapping out the points distributor for an electronic one.

Rich, Just this evening I found the wings on moss motors. They were not
cheap but if you plug the search above in you will find them !! They sure
look nice though. -
Charles Niedzialkowski replied to the topic Turn Signal replacement in the forum VW Based Kits 16 years, 3 months ago
Paul, You are exactly right, there is no gasket and that is perhaps one of the
problems. I will try to do the wiring on the top side once I et the pads. I
ordered the pads and I happened to finally find the windshield wings. I just
“bit the bullet” and bought a set. Thanks again for the help. Chuck -

Evening,
I have installed the adjustable front axle and disc brakes without a problem. Be sure to read “PinkMG” on the proceedure.
However the ball joints are another situation. I installed the Brazillion made and the German made with the same results, a very still steering that isn’t getting any better even though I have put about 2000 miles on…[Read more] - Load More
