Hi,I have a set of five wire a wheel covers from my Duchess. Send me a private message with your email address, and I’ll send you photos. It’s likely the factory did not supply the exact same wire wheel covers through-out the production run. Plus, my set was on my car for many years, so they are not “new”.If you have Classic Roadsters serial…[Read more]

I noticed that in the EMPI catalogue there is a listing of both chassis and engine serial #’s that will identify them both. Hope this helps.

bout i/4 turn. Did find some of it in the steering coupler, but the steering box appears to be the main culprit. Thanks for the reply. I will probably need all the help I can get!

Wow Paul…you’re an old fart now! Have you been getting AARP stuff in the mail yet? Seriously, thanks for compliments.
Joe, most retired age people need more “clearance”, so join the club. My first TD was made to fit me and no one else could see over the dashboard. I’m not retired yet, but wish I was.

Hi Joe,Pink’s name is Mark. Good guy and very knowledgeable.Mark is in NJ. I am too. And it’s not just what retirement’s all about. I built my Classic Roadsters Duchess in 1982. I was 24! And it’s still running great, 26 years later.I second Mark’s comments re the column. Most of the TD replicas you see were “adjusted” to the original owner by how…[Read more]

Hey Joe,
As far as moving the seats back, you are probably already there. The seat back mounts almost flush with the cockpit rear bulkhead. If you move the seat bottoms rearward, then you gain nothing but less seat bottom. With a butt like mine, that’s a no-no.
Your room will probably come from moving the steering column toward the dash.
Sounds…[Read more] -

The VW steering design is not exactly geometrically correct, but if you have checked the linkages and they are tight, the box may be the culprit.
A new steering box is the best bet. Keep in mind these cars were built from donor cars…who knows in what condition or mileage.
I sold an NOS German made box I had a few years ago, but I think Brazilian…[Read more] -

Synthetic oil will help too. Lot’s of old school people tell you not to use it, but that’s because they never tried it or they are cheap (my opinion).
I’ve been using synthetic lubricants for a couple decades and they only get better. Organic lubricants don’t remotely compare.
You could even install a remote oil cooler and put a switched small…[Read more] -

I changed my timing from 25 deg BTDC to 32 deg BTDC and it seems to run cooler. We’ve had some cooler days and that helped. It runs consistently around 225 now. I’m still looking into ways to bring it down even more. Full-flowing is something I might try this winter when I have it stored in the garage.

I re-fitted the fuel inlet tube with epoxy, and I am going to safety wire everything after thinking about it some more.
Years ago I lost a car (67 Olds Cutlass, brand new) to a fire. I was driving along and kept hearing a car horn behind but wasn’t paying much attention. Suddenly, the engine quit and everything on the dash lit up. I pulled ov…[Read more] -
