Oh…and if its any consolation, the owners of real TDs are forever complaining about how much they have to fettle their bonnets when reconstructing their cars.

Some of the actual builders may correct me, but I think what you’re experiencing is entirely normal. My car’s hood isn’t just right either, and I made it slightly worse when I added a radiator up front–the top bracket apparently spreads the sides just a leetle beet more than the top hood piece wants to stretch to cover. SPROOONG. Also: “crack”…[Read more]

My guess is that I will keep the WV motor for some time but I do need some EV parts. I am currently looking for or how to build a tranny adapter.

Go for the 25th Anniversay Corvette in the Silver Body, black trim version – the 79 to 81’s are duds! The 82 “Collector’s Edition” gives you the first instance of a rear (hatchback) lift window if that turns you on too.

Stuart, If after driving your “arrest me red” TDr around for a while, you still want to do an EV conversion, send me a Private Message. I can help you source some parts. I have always (except for now) had bright red sports cars. Love ’em.

To my knowledge, no standard 4 speed Bug had a neutral safety switch. The Autostick may have had one as part of the electric clutch servo wiring, but it has been too long since I was around one, that I can’t recall.KentT2016-01-15 11:33:00

Those look pretty good. Chevettes are 4 x 100mm. Here is a list of other cars with that bolt pattern. A lot of steelies have 10-16 round holes. Ther are a lot of 4×100 wheels, both stock and aftermarket, to choose from. I’d look at mid ’90s Sentras, and mid 2000s Scions….
The best match for an MG wheel I have found is the 4 x 4.5 inch Nissan… -

BTW I’m counting 16 holes in these wheels and only 15 on photos of original TD’s I’m seeing online.

Here’s a photo of what I’m working with. The tires are clearly 14 inch. Can anyone figure out if these were “custom” wheels just for this car, or some other sort of MG permutation?

edward ericson replied to the topic British Coach Works in the forum Running MGTD Kits Cars for Sale 9 years, 8 months ago
You are right that the “correct” wheel size is 15. The front engine BCW cars used adapters to fit VW wheels over Chevette hubs. The owner might still have them. Alternatively you could have them made. If it were mine I’d see about getting the hubs fitted with new studs at 4.5 inches. Then find a set of MGA steel wheels or go to MWS wires.
