Thanks Mark, Ive looked into repairs. For a few hundred more than a repair of this old ugly speedo, I could get a complete set of vintage style new VDOs. Im hoping to find a working speedo for a few bucks and just get by until I am ready to buy the complete set from VDO or others.

I can’t find that group on Facebook. Maybe because I’m in the USA?

There is a speedometer repair shop in Southern California. It might be called SoCal speedo shop, yet I will look for the proper name.

Hello all, I am a new member to this site. The reason I joined was to try and sell a MGTD replica for some elderly friends/clients. Was built back in the early 80s has less than 2500 miles on the kit. It is built with an rectangular steel tubular chassis with a Chevy Chevette drivetrain, which consist of a 1.6 L four-cylinder and five speed…[Read more]

Beats me. Im guessing the bolt worked loose causing stress on the non threaded portion. I don’t know if the bolt was torqued properly by the previous TD owner, or Chevette owner for that matter.

Took me some more looking and a little rewiring and testing but think I have it all sorted out.
Path is such:
- Yellow wire (included in kit) powers fuse box – 4 circuits that are always on – circuits are labeled Relay, BrakeSW, Headlight, and HAZ/SPARA
- Fuse Box wire labeled “Power Feed Key Switch” goes from Fuse Box to ignition switch pin 3…

What feeds the hot-ignition side of your fuse box?
(By memory; grain of salt) my car has battery + running to the big starter lug, Battery – bolted to the frame and feeding a grounding buss under the dash. Fat red 10g + wire from battery to the key switch at 30, then two wires that test + go from that. The key-on + wire goes to the fuse box to…[Read more]

So…I’ve learned a lot in this process. One part of which is the cost of going cheap. I got a “WMPHE 12 Circuit Wiring Harness Universal Street Rod Wiring Harness 12 Fuses Standalone Wiring Harness” from Amazon for ~$50 and figured I’d rock and roll.
Gutted the pre-existing wiring and started mapping things out. Wires were labeled and color…[Read more]

Weird that it broke. Why would a pulley bolt break while just driving?

Update on broken pulley bolt. Was able to extract the threaded portion of the bolt from the crankshaft. There’s a crankshaft spacer behind the timing gear on the crankshaft, and it had slid forward out of the engine block about 3/4 of its way out to prevent the timing sprocket from keying onto the crankshaft. See the enclosed pics.
I was a…[Read more]
