I just purchased a Royal Duchess TD replica a few days ago and now it’s sitting at home with a broken clutch cable. Looking under the pan, I don’t see how to get to it. I plan on having it towed and fixed, but will the average shop be able to fix it?

its not that hard to do yourself the samba.com or youtube can show you how .  Any shop that does vintage VW cars can do it. keep us informed on how it goes

I found a shop willing to work on it, but they only have one guy familiar with VWs.  So, it’s scheduled for next week and they’ll have it for a few days. At $130/hr it won’t be cheap, but worth it. Besides, I’ll use the down  time to get some other issues resolved myself. (I’ve been a VDub guy since the ’70s and can do the motor work)

I got my Duchess back today. The clutch cable and accelerator cable are now brand new and it cost me almost $300. Worth it, though, because now I can start putting all the new parts on it that I have been ordering since it went in for repairs.

The cable can be easy or it can be a deuce of a job. Here’s me struggling with the one in Bridget a few years ago.

LOL! I read your struggles with your clutch cable replacement. That is EXACTLY why I paid to have someone else struggle with it.
