Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic FiberFab Migi – Front Body Mounting in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 4 months ago
Chuck;If I recall from the assembly manual,the front apron between the fenders is supposed to bolt to the front axle along with the front bumper brackets,and this is what is supposed to hold the front body.
My kit was never assembled when I bought it and shrinkage as the fiberglass aged cuased some mis-alignment in this area for me.My solution was…[Read more] -

Sounds alot like bad grounds.start checking the ground at every bulb.The dash indicators should not light when turning on lights,the system it trying to ground through a hot wire.

Well no adjustable beam.Just a complete dissasembly of the front beam,to check for anything worn out and cleaning/painting.Upon teardown a couple of the seals were torn,as well as a couple of the ball joint boots.The shopping list came to around $60 for seals,ball joint boots,swaybar bushinigs and straps,and rear stub axle seals and gaskets.All in…[Read more]

Can’t say that I have seen a complete stock heating/cooling system on a V dub in a long time.My 2 cents would be,the upper heat exchangers are to help preheat the air going into the lower exchanger,and possibly keep the head pipe cool for the carb heater crossover.
But seeing as most of us aren’t driving our MG’s in extreme cold they could…[Read more] -

ed conratulations,looks like a fine job done well.I have always had a difficult time getting studs drilled out straight,even with plenty of room to work.And you did it with limited access.

Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic Muffler in the forum TD Replicas 15 years, 5 months ago
ed;If the visegrip fails,you can try to weld a nut to what is left of the stud.The heat from welding the the nut should help to free things up.

Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic Enclosed trailer in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 7 months ago
James;
I will throw in my 2 cents.How about a School bus.You can set up the inside just like an RV,and drive the TD right in the back.I have seen a few on craigslist(WI) for under $3000 and already fixed up inside.I would think an enclosed trailer is going to cost about the same.The down side is 10-12 mpg with a bus,but however you are going to…[Read more] -

Will;
To change over to a stick should not be that bad.All the small cars from 1980’s GM,chevette,vega,monza,pontiac 1000,astra,olds starfire.all used the same drive line.The 4 spd tranny should be a common item.The bell housings may have different bolt patterns per engine maker.The rearend should hold up just fine,as most of these little 4…[Read more] -

Will;
Just a tip,the Chevette should have a catalytic converter,I would not put this item back on.But DO NOT throw it out.These GM cats bring some nice $$ at salvage yards.Last year I was getting $150. -
Scott A Chynoweth replied to the topic KwikLift car lift question in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 9 months ago
I can’t see that 30 inches off the ground to be a benifit.That’s about waist high.Not high enough to walk under,unless you are vertically challenged.You will still have to roll around on a creeper,but now you will have a platform and mechanicals of the lift in the way.This would be a handy lift for paint and body work,but thats about it.
My 2…[Read more] -

At the base of the generator/alternator stand there will be the block number.Then if you want the year of the frame,that number will be between the seats,you will see a cover plate,the frame number should be just in front of that.
Then look up the number in the VW Tech articles link -
