It’s available on the modern MG TF.
You have to make one yourself for your car. -

This is a safety question.
Do all VW based kit manufacturers specify weight and location of ballast?
Does everyone have the appropriate amount of ballast in their cars?

Peter C. King replied to the topic Sway Bars in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago
Yup. Oversteer. I’m talking about a stock Bug. The VW TDs may have unloaded the front end so that there isn’t enough traction to induce oversteer at road speeds. That may be why there isn’t a thread on sway bars. The front end plows before the rear end jacks up.
Suspension geometry can do a lot to minimize oversteer at low speed. But there w…[Read more] -

Paul,
I think that I speak for the group, even though I’m new here, when I say that we appreciate the effort you put into moderating this forum. It’s a job like the proverbial duck on a pond. You appear cool and calm on the surface while your feet are moving like crazy under the water. We don’t know the half of what you do to keep TD.com a…[Read more] -

The Lee Valley URL will take you to a page that lists Brass, Veritas Cabinetmaker’s, Carpenter’s Beech and Carver’s mallets. I have a carver’s mallet. It will hurt whatever you point it at and not leave a mark. It’s the ultimate dead blow mallet. It would make a classy knockoff hammer. Useful too if you had to defend yourself against car th…[Read more] -

A piece of 2 x 4 isn’t in keeping with the class of the car. We’re talking Grey Poupon here, not Cub Food’s mystery mustard by the jug.
What about replacing the lead hammer with a carver’s mallet? Oiled hardwood handle, dense rubber face, lead insert. This is a work of art. Michaelangelo would have used one had it been available.
Or a wood…[Read more] -

Why don’t you use the Clark and Clark protective knockoff wrench picture as a pattern and make your own with plywood and a jigsaw? Be the first on your block to own a three eared knockoff wrench.

Peter C. King replied to the topic Knock Off Wheel Torq in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago
Post pictures. Perhaps you can improve on the idea. A collapsible/removable handle would reduce the need to hit a piece of wood with a hammer. Add a few bits of brass and people will think that it came from the factory.
A wooden wrench. What a concept. -

And at some point we realize that the journey is as important as is the destination.
I’m just starting on the journey. I have a TD.com bar badge and an MG parking sign. I’ll get there. -

Clark & Clark sells a “Protectice Knockoff Wrench”. It’s a 17 ply lamination that fits over the knock off. You still hit it with the hammer. $29.95.

Peter C. King replied to the topic Bath and Shampoo in the forum General Discussion 14 years ago
You will find Dawn dishwashing detergent in most glider pilots’ wash buckets. It strips oil well. That’s important when you are trying to clean bugs from leading edges. It also leaves the gelcoat with a silky feel. -
Peter C. King replied to the topic Bath and Shampoo in the forum General Discussion 14 years ago
Stick with Carnuba wax. Miracle waxes with “polymers” on the label use silicons to achieve that wet look on clear coat. It works on fiberglass cars too, but it penetrates the gelcoat and migrates into and through the fiberglass underneath. Any repair to the fibrglass requires powerful solvents to strip the silicon out of the glass long enoug…[Read more] -

I breathed enough CO2 from VW heater boxes.
I’m going to do it the hard way. I want a front engined car.
Thanks for your work on the badge. It goes right next to my microcar-minicar badge. I will have a very interesting badge bar.

Detroit cars you buy all at once. Kit cars you buy one piece at a time.
I just bought a TD.com grill badge.
Now I just need the rest of the car.
You have to start someplace.
It’s a pretty badge.

What platform will you build it on?
Nice fender repair. Where’s the before picture?

There are two levels of adhesive. One for carpets, the other for hood liners, head liners and trim. The trim adhesive is much stronger stuff. The standard Eastwood product is $6.99 on sale, $12.99 retail. The Eastwood super stick stuff goes for $18.99. I used 3M trim adhesive on my Avanti hood.
After shipping, the $6.99 Eastwood product mig…[Read more] -

We’ve been reinventing a procedure for adjusting valves when there is an excellent discussion in the “Tech Articles for VW’s” section of this forum. It was written by Sean Bartnik on Sept 24, 1997.
Did you know that there is a dot on the edge of the fan pulley indication TDC?
I don’t usually read the directions first either.

I used a 3M version of this product to bond a liner to a fiberglass hood. It’s been hanging over a smallblock V8 for 15 years with no separation. You can find it on the shelf at your local parts store. Or, you can start an account at Eastwood.Eastwood Carpet and General Purpose Spray Adhesive 14 oz net AerosolItem #12743 Z @ $6.99
