Did you by chance, in the effort of pulling off and changing the fuel lines, knock that one little wire thingie off your carb? Idle solenoid!
Look for that wire with a spade connector that’s attached to nothing. If you find it, plug it into the spade on that thing on your carb. Done.
If that don’t work, get out two screw drivers and go to…[Read more]

Schu, I’m always up for another breakfast. If that diner is convenient for you, I’m in.
I’m guessing around 10:00. Ed, does that sound right?

@schu – I don’t think that’s the problem. The fuel line below the tank is new and the car was working fine after I installed the shut off valve. I will run that test tonight or tomorrow to make sure but I don’t think that’s the problem. I’ll let you know what comes up.
@royal – That’s possible. I did replace the old hose with new hoses and…[Read more]

One other thought
If the fuel line just below the tank is old and you clamped it as I suggested maybe it collapsed inside when it was clamped while installing the shut-off valve and filter on that end. Can you disconnect right below the shut-off valve and hook a long temp hose to it and run to a can and then open the valve to verify you are…[Read more]

When you guys get a chance give me your ETA coming south my way and location to meet.
Could meet at the same diner but assume it will be earlier then lunch this time so we can beat the Friday night traffic?

Thanks for the tips, David. Tried all that. Replaced the new filter with the old filter. Replaced all the fuel lines. Finally gave up and put everything back the way it was before I moved the filter. And guess what? Still having the same problem. Time to take it to the mechanic.

Looks like Lois is out due to lack of wives joining in – so solo.
Who else is now in?
Timing – I am going to take the day off so can meet you guys coming down from the north on 301 or other anytime you guys plan for…
Hope the weather holds out. Looks to be cooler next week

edward ericson replied to the topic Rust in gas tank in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 6 months ago
They all want the earlier tank because the filler neck in the later one is laid down to accommodate the external fuel door. You can use that one in a TDr but you’ll have to relocate the filler neck as described. If you need an new tank it’s easier to get the older style tank & shorten the neck. Sometimes you get lucky and don’t even need to mess…[Read more]

Just over one week away. Timing issue has yet to be resolved. Pick an arrival time you want and I’ll adjust my departure time accordingly.

edward ericson replied to the topic Rust in gas tank in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 6 months ago
Just get the early one–61-67. You might need to cut the filler neck down a couple inches. Test fit carefully, scribe it and then take it to a muffler shop to be cut and welded before you clean the Cosmoline out. They’ll charge you $20 or $30 to do it. Maybe less you you tell them what it’s for and come in with a six-pack.
Note: don’t buy the…[Read more]

Look for the same problems you would look for in a VW Bug of the same vintage. Rusty floors are a typical problem, and fixable. sloppy shifting (bad bushing, a $3 part, several hours of fiddling to get to it). Electrical gremlins, which are usually loose or missing grounds. Steering bits. Gauges. Top fitment and condition (you’ll use it,…[Read more]
