Catch 22 on point one, Jack. How do you check it out for a long distant drive without taking a long distant drive?

Come on Jack You have a couple of weeks for shakedown trips in your local area to build confidence. You don’t have to make a decision till you get to my place.Either way I’m glad your coming.

Bill: when Jack gets to Schu’s place with the tow rig, you pull the needles out of the valves of the tires of his tow vehicle. I’ll grab the igniter off his ignition system.
Nuff said. -

It’s been my experience that an Apple device (iPhone or iPad) allows you to post one initial photo and from there on it thinks any new photo you try to post is that original photo and tells you that you’ve already posted it. One and done.

Update:
It seems most of the speedster guys I usually meet in the DC area for our trip up north are not going this year or only coming up for one or two days. Because of this I think we will alter the course and head up to Carlisle on RT 15 via 234 off of 95 just south of Woodbridge and meet the rest of any possible crew in Frederick Md. for lunch… -

I’m thinking of a small trailer for my “car’s on-board spare parts bin”. Not a lot of room with a front engine for much else.

Module will do it. That was the first thing that got killed. You could also go back to points and condensor, at least for testing. It is the old car person’s tradition, after swapping in the Pertronix, to keep the points kit in the car’s on-board spare parts bin–“just in case.”
Sometimes they do come in handy. -

Compression check. Good one.
I’d still see if I could get her running first though. This is a VW Bug. The only time a VW Bug got ruined in 200 feet was this. And even then–it was only the last 200 feet.edsnova2016-04-25 21:17:15

200 feet?
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you did not exceed 35 mph with a car in tow–in gear–in 200 feet….unless you were pulling it with a monster truck or maybe a top fuel dragster. You weren’t doing that, were you?So the engine runs cruddy, does it?But–IT RUNS.Start tuning her up.Check the oil. Got some? Excellent. Add a li… -

The originals had that bulge in the seat back. A lot don’t have it anymore. I always thought that was the coolest thing tho.

I assume you disconnected everything. Remove the battery. It’s probably fried, but check it anyway. Any number of other things could also be ruined. Remove the alternator and have it tested also. You might luck out but don’t count on it. There should be a fusible link installed in this circuit and from your description was not. Remove and replace…[Read more]

OK. Most of these master cylinders mount the same. You can get away with using almost anything. I started with the original Pinto cylinder which eventually wore out. I bolted up a cylinder from the little Ford LTD (1983?) because the brake lines exit the cylinder on the right side. The original cylinder had the lines right up against the body…[Read more]
